Paladin - Smite - Soothing Balm not granting regen

When I cast Smite with 5/5 in the Soothing Balm node, my character does not appear to get the health regen from the ability.

In the screenshot below, note that Smite (slot 1) is on cooldown from just casting it. I stood in melee range of the dummy, so I was certainly within the distance for the ability to proc. My base regen is currently 99, and it is still 99 despite using Smite.

I’d assume that one of two things are happening:

  1. I am not receiving the regen from Smite at all.
  2. I am receiving the regen from Smite, but the sheet is not adjusting to show it (though it does show this for other abilities, such as Sigil of Hope).

You’re not missing any hp so you can’t get healed & therefore you don’t see any increased health regen. If you equip the Exsanguinous chest or Last Steps of the Living boots & use Smite you should see the increased health regen.

Yeah, I see that now. Agreed. My post can be ignored.

However, I’d suggest that the functionality of the node (or, I suppose, the functionality of healing) be changed in that case, as that’s not particularly intuitive that you only receive the heal if you are missing health. It’s not like a band-aid would bounce off of me if I had no cut to cover up.

Why? That’s what the node says.

“Your allies have increased health regeneration if they have been healed by Smite recently (last 4 seconds).”

The heal is AoE, not targeted. Being in the effect should give you credit regardless of your current HP. Being healed for zero is still a heal. It’s unintuitive that you’d be excluded from a spell effect that you’re within.
