Overhauling Defenses in Last Epoch

“We are switching to a standard percentage resistance system capped at 75%”
What does that mean for the Mage body/torso armor that reduces all elemental damage taken by 30%? Does it just increase the resistance to elemental damage by 30% or does it stack with the 75% resistance?

What exactly are you refering to? I am pretty sure there are no such affixes/implicits for mage’s body armor.

I believe he is referring to the Prism Wraps Unique body armour. But in any case, I imagine it would just reduce the elemental damage taken by 30%. I don’t see why having resistances would conflict with this. But that’s just my interpretation.

It’s a unique item.

Ah yeah, but that is not a “Mage Body Armor”, this is a generic unique.

We will have to see how “special” stuff like this is handled, but since that unique has pretty low stas overall(especially since armor will most likely be very important) something that works on top of the resistance cap woudln’t make that item “op”

Yeah, it sounds like it applies after resistances, but the wording may change after the patch. Hopefully it doesn’t, because it’s hilarious for tanking, but who knows?

Oh, it’s generic? Sorry for the confusion. I found it with my Mage, so that must’ve led to my confusion. Apologies for the mistake.

No worries, i might be a bit pendantic here.

But since the class-specific helmet/body rework i kinda try to take those things more precise :stuck_out_tongue:

No, it’s chilled. You’re not being pedantic. It’s quite reasonable.

With the system that is explained here, you will have exactly 1xEHP when you are at 75% resistance because they will get penetrated to 0% no matter what you do.

Thus - even without playtesting - it is very unlikely that capping resistance will be as mandatory as in similar games.
Having “only” 70% instead of 75% can be handled with just a mere 5% larger Healthpool, where in other games you would typically need a 20% larger Healthpool.

It’ll be 30% damage reduction just like the various other sources of damage reduction. TBH it doesn’t matter if it’s applied before or after the resists.

Good changes. At least in my humble opinion. Vitality makes sense now; mandatory defense layer gotten rid of; direction towards addressing one-shots. All good.

Nice update. Yeah something not right for resistance currently

nice! thx

You mean, like resists? There will always be mandatory stats/affixes/etc.

i think he means GB

I know he means GB, but resists are now mandatory & you’ll probably want to stack as much armour as you can reasonably get away with now since it functions like GB. So, nothing’s changed, we’ve just swapped one mandatory stat (GB) for another (resists).

The point I was trying to make (badly, I accept), was that to say “yay, we’ve got rid of a mandatory stat” is to be a trifle short-sighted & that they’ve missed the other mandatory stats in the game (that to be fair, were there before, just in a less easily understood form - protections, unless you were one of Boardman’s 200k ward builds)…

And don’t forget Crit Avoidance is still there.

I agree that people are not realising that something like the Purifier and Lightbringer set affixes are prob going to become mandatory now in the same way set GB was mandatory. Good defence is mandatory in this game which is a good thing.

Now don’t get me started on Ward as i personally dislike it intensely. All your defence is generated through a single attribute (Ward) and this is largely obtained thru skills and passives. That gives them a MASSIVE damage advantage over non-ward builds as they need to dedicate prob 80% of affixes to defence which a ward build can use for offensive stats / minion stats.

Yes, the highest ward builds could be nerfed by capping the number of Wraiths (maybe increase their damage to compensate, not sure) and reducing the ward on hit on the Spellblade attacks (mostly Shatter Strike I think).

Wow, what a ride. I didn’t it expect to be coming into this thread with people screaming it’s the end of the world because of resistances restructuring. I would suggest little more chill and try to new changes before freaking out how they are the end of LE. lol
