maybe the idea has been raised before, but would it be an advantage to release a version 0.9 or something else (not 1.0) to allow to create characters online but without the ability to play as a group and without the ability to sell/buy stuff ?
I at least would be interested in the possibility to create an online character to play solo, which I will be able to use in X months to play with friends; instead of playing on local and not having the possibility to play it online later.
I have no clue where is the effort (is it more a server issue) or multiplayer gameplay, but I would be very happy with it.

Multiplayer is coming in 0.9 & whether you want to play with others or trade is entirely up to you.
It was more if it would allow for a faster âonline releaseâ, but with limited features.

Yeah, not really, theyâd still need to develop all of the stuff needed for âproperâ multiplayer. The only difference is that youâd only have 1 player on each instance, but theyâd still need the tech to be able to allocate each instance server resources.
the problem is that LE cant be controlled at the moment. if someone wants to cheat/hack its possible without problems as there is no server computing the actions and therefore adding online characters now would be dangerous for the multiplayer release as it could generate duplicated items that can be transfered to multiplayer. to prevent that problem the whole client would need a proper online session (you could call it a multiplayer world with only you inside) so the server computes and is in control but this client would be the multiplayer client that is not on the state of the singleplayer so you would loose content and introduce bugs as well as possible performance issues.
tldr to prevent cheating, they would have to release the multiplayer client but this client is not on the same state as the known singleplayer client.
Which is why multiplayer is going to be server authoritative & no offline data (edited save files, etc) is going to be allowed into the online environment.
thats what i mean. this is the reason they cant let us have online characters now as the above would be the requirement
Yep understand, I didnât know how complex it was.
I was just hoping that if they could make the game as server authoritative (and any other hard technical part) before the real MP is ready (cauz for instance the gameplay, or the monolith or the market is not ready), then we could jump online but a solo online
But⌠why? You arenât gaining anything with it being server authoritative.

Yes exactly as mentionned by heavy. No matter how much I love the game in its current state, I canât dedicate a lot of hours to it. Therefore I wouldnât matter to play a solo character on the server, so that I could play it later on a real online game and then sparring a few hours instead of having to re-do the same character and slowly grind it through.
