I cannot see half of the on-death effects because the enemies and myself have active abilities, or because they blend into the map background. I cannot read the text on every enemy before I kill it. This mechanic is partially responsible for almost every single death, and I cannot see it. I kill something, I walk or blink close to the area I just killed a bunch of things in. I die.
This mechanic was never fun. You cannot make it fun. Please for the love of god, remove on-death effects. Let people who are killing everything on screen kill everything and have fun, is it too much to ask? Do you really have to enforce this kind of artificial difficulty? On-Death is the least fun thing in every single ARPG. Please, remove it. You can’t do it better. Everone thinks they are going to do it better, and it’s always awful. There’s too many things going on at once for a corpse or some shitty little circle of fire on the ground one-shotting you to be okay.
Those aren’t on death effects. They are skills that the mob used before dying. If a mob lays down a pool of fire on the ground and you then kill it, it doesn’t just go away with death, it stays for the skill duration.
But I do agree that many times there’s a lot going on the screen for you to be able to see these things properly all the time.
You are wrong. They are specifically on-death effects. As stated by the mob in my video recordings of such events.
And that is exactly why I am peeved. I cannot avoid them by watching the enemies, the enemies are dead already. I am currently watching active threats precisely because the visual clarity is not fantastic, and I am being killed by something that’s already dead and didn’t cast anything. The only warning being a tiny puddle of piss on the ground I accidentally stepped in for a quarter of a second. It’s bullshit.
Ah, I think I know what you mean. I can’t say it’s ever personally bothered me much, as I tend to always keep moving, so when a mob dies I’m not there anymore. I don’t think I ever died to something like this, just to the lingering effects of boss mechanics now and then.
But I play ranged/minion almost exclusively, so that could be the difference.
