Offline play

Hello fellow travelers,

Did you notice that playing offline when servers are down doesnt work ?
Even if in login menu there is note that playing offline isnt affected game still wont work offline.
Simply you cannot login to chose character.

There are two offline modes. One if false offline, where you connect to the servers. This is the default mode, where you get a choice for online or offline.
But if you go to steam properties for LE, you have the option to launch “full offline”. This doesn’t connect to the servers and still works when servers are down.

I play on Steam and have had the same issue. Changing the game launch options to Play Full Offline as default worked for me (right click game in library and select > properties > general).

hmm ok

I used not to be bothered by this. But this sure is starting to become a problem, specially in the events of server instability.
They should get rid of the fake-offline mode, and make it so when we click on the “Play Offline” button, the game would automatically close and restart in full-offline mode.
@DJSamhein do you know if there’s a reasonable explanation for the existence of 2 different offline modes?

I guess it’s really frustating for people who don’t know this even exists to get into the game, find out it’s on maintenance, tries the Play Offline button and it doesn’t work, even though the red announcement on top says “Offline mode is unnafected”

I’m pretty sure the pseudo-offline is a holdover from before true-offline existed. It should be renamed to “Single Player” since it’s not truely offline.

Most likely inertia. That was what we had before launch, so it was easier to just add a new “client” than it would have been to strip the normal one and possibly introduce bugs.
Besides, some people like playing offline but still being able to chat, I guess.

And when there’s a solution for offline MTX, it will likely affect fake offline first (because that can still check the server).

That being said, rather than get rid of the fake-offline mode, they could simply add another button for fully offline to the main client. So we’d get the options for online, fake offline and full offline, where the last would simply restart the client.

Although it would probably be easier to just have a disclaimer in fake offline that it still connects to the server and with instructions on how to launch full offline. And it should be more prominent when the servers are down.

EDIT:

That is actually a great solution. You’d have “Play online”, “Play single player” and “Play offline”. The last would either restart the client (which could become annoying) or just show instructions on how to do it.
