Offline Mode

As the servers are down for 24 hours prior to the release of patch 1.7 I thought I might dip my toes into offline mode. Imagine my surprise when I found offline mode is not available while the servers are down!!!
Just what is the point of offline mode.

There are 2 offline modes:
-Online offline mode, which is what you tried. There you can chat with people but everything else works as if offline, meaning you can’t group with people, trade, be on the leaderboards, etc.
-And true offline mode where it doesn’t connect to servers at all.

When you launch the game the first time it asks you if you want offline mode or not. Presumably at some point you told steam to remember the option so it doesn’t ask you anymore.
To launch in offline mode now you have to go to the game in your library, right click and choose properties, then select the launch option for offline (or have it ask every time so you can go back to online when the patch is done).

You also have to disable the steam cloud, on the screen DJ posted, otherwise it still doesn’t work.

Thankyou both for your help. I’m now playing my favourite game again. Much appreciated.

No you don’t, you just have to right click on LE in steam.

I have steam cloud enabled and play in True Offline no problem. It’s how my characters are shared in True Offline between my pc and steam deck

Thanks. i was facepalming hard that EHG had an offline mode that needed servers online

but now i’m here to read up on a refresh patch event?? Halloween or somethin? Undead and lizards?

It’s not a Halloween event, because it will be over next month (though shrines and lizards will stay, only the undead stuff will go away).
And yeah, there will be a cycle reset with it, if you want another shot at leaderboards. Or just continue with a legacy character, there will be no difference in content between them.

these stash tab upgrades sound great

but back to the topic, good stuff, fake offline mode and true offline mode.

Mine isn’t working for some reason. I have enabled and disabled cloud saving with full offline and it is telling me that it can not connect to the login server ;P. I even restarted and still the same thing.

You really don’t need to disable cloud saving.
All you have to do is select Launch Option: Play Full Offline, like DJ showed in that screenshot. Did you try that?
If that doesn’t work, maybe try verifying the integrity of game files, in the Installed Files option tab, then try launching in full offline again.

ps: @DJSamhein how do you do that, anyway? Can you please send me a PM telling me how to post a plain image like that instead of a link? Thanks

It doesn’t work for me, still looking for server at launch.
It did work after disabling cloud saving.
Apparently everyone has a different experience… Weird but not a big deal I suppose.

Some image hosting sites (like imgur.com) give links to embed images rather than just link them.

Just as an update on this. LE has to be launched from the steam client to open in offline mode. Launching from the desktop icon has a different result.

As long as you have an online link directly for the image, like imgur that Llama mentioned or screenshot.io which is what I used, the forum will always try to “resolve” the link. If it’s an image, it will embed the image. Much like if you post a youtube video link it will create a preview as well. So you don’t really have to do anything other than post the url.

If you’re trying to post an image from google search, for example, you’ll have to actually go on the site and find the image url, otherwise it won’t work.

Not necessarily, Imgur for example can give you the following links.

A “share” link
https://imgur.com/6bYnQMV

HTML embedded

I did say:

The link imgur gives you isn’t a link for the image but for their website. Not only that, but they have some protection against direct links, so the forum only posts the url as a link.

But most images, you just need to write a link directly on text like someurl/image.png and the forum will automatically embed a preview.

For example, for the image above I just pasted “https://rtalbert.org/content/images/size/w960/2021/09/dsmGaKWMeHXe9QuJtq_ys30PNfTGnMsRuHuo_MUzGCg.jpg” directly on the text and the forum did the rest on its own.

Then why does it take me directly to the specific image if it’s not a direct link to the image?

Even sticking .png on the end of the first link, doesn’t embed the image properly.

The link https://imgur.com/6bYnQMV doesn’t take you directly to the image. It takes you to their site with an id where they load the image. The image link itself is https://i.imgur.com/6bYnQMV.png. This one will take you directly to the image without the site “around” it.

And like I mentioned, imgur has a protection against these sort of embeddings, which is why the forum can’t manage to embed it directly. The vast majority of image urls will be instantly embedded, though, as shown by the image I used above.

The link you posted isn’t showing an image embedded in your message though, like shown in my picture XD
edit: mine isn’t also… whelp.

Guess I never really tried putting the link here directly. I always used the hyperlink button up there. Probably because It’s been a long time I actively use game forums of any kind (probably 20 years ago, back when Ragnarok was a big thing XD), and at that time, there used to be an option next to the hyperlink button to let us embed the image directly in the message.
