No one playing anymore?

Steamchart show deceiptive stats, game used to have more people in it.

Where are we for the next update ? What about new char ? Any ETA for a real 1.0 ?

Last Epoch peaked at 40,000 concurrent on Steam when MP was added to the game. A record turnout for a Last Epoch update. The downward trend is due to the game still being in Early Access and major overhauls, features and Cycles (ā€œSeasonsā€) not coming until release (1.0).

Next update is estimated August/September, probably with a teaser during Gamescon.
The remaining masteries and the factions (ie trade) will be coming with 1.0.
The devs aim for a 1.0 release at the end of the year.

Dont forget the crappy performance of the game having an impact on numbers.

And, you know, D4.

I’m on a break right now until 1.0, since I’ve done basically everything I wanted to do up until this point.

It doesn’t help that when I return, I’m going to need another 10 or 12 hours of just deleting Idols and probably every Unique and Set item that can’t be equipped by Mage. (Assuming our cloud saves all survive the game launch.)

Not starting a new character in the new cycle?

Nope, I’m out of room. I already played until my bank was unaffordable and all my character slots were filled by mules holding idols. It’s going to take a massive effort to free up character slots and inventory space again.

Plus, after 600 straight hours of playing the game since March, I’m pretty burnt out at this point. lol

In general, when I play a game, I try to try all the spec’s that look interesting on every class. I don’t like to make new characters and start over every time it’s updated. That doesn’t appeal to me. The leveling part is the most boring part to me; something I prefer never to do over again. Seasons, cycles, ladder, none of that stuff can rope me back in for this reason. They’d have to add a new class or sub classes.

Yeh im fully aware of other games, but we cant forget the thing that would have the biggest impact, can we?

Yeah, that’s why I mentioned D4.

That’s the part I find the most interesting because it’s hard to imagine people who enjoy this game would be very passionate about D4. Would assume they’re two separate audiences at this point, but maybe not.

Nah, I’d imagine there’s a big overlap 'cause arpgs.

Maybe the general public is more easily entertained than I am, I dunno. lol

Strange times in the RPG universe…
Nothing exciting happens for a few years (except Elden Ring maybe), then suddenly in 2023, all the juggernauts drop at pretty much the same time. Diablo 4, closely followed by Baldur’s Gate 3, with Starfield stepping on its tail. These three will crush the market.

Hopefully there are enough people who play ONLY arpgs.
But the average number of players is still bound to be impacted, compared to 2020-early 2023 when nothing big was happening.

I happen to be a Fromsoft / Dark Souls fan, and Elden Ring was the first thing they’ve made since Bloodborne that’s gotten my attention. So I know how you feel.

I personally wasn’t that excited about Elden Ring until it dropped and I found out more about it. I was expecting it to be more DS3 / Bloodborne action game hoopla, but it actually turned out to be an atmospheric romp through a high fantasy world more akin to Dark Souls 1.

I guess if you were playing Baldur’s Gate 3 or Starfield, they might tear you away from ARPG’s for a good 100-200 hours, but Elden Ring only took me away for about 40.

The past two updates have focused on QoL/Polish/MP.

So there was a huge boost of people returning to try out MP, but there is nothing to keep me playing currently.

Farmed all the new items, played every character I want to so far etc.

New uniques and new build opportunities is when ill return. hopefully the next patch adds more then fluff so that people have stuff to do for a while.
