Lol, ofc not. I’m sure GGG wants to release 0.2 as soon as possible, because they completely missed about endgame in 0.1 and it desperately needs to be changed. It just takes time to make a big content patch.
If they really wanted to do that, they would release 0.2 after LE’s season 2.
If they release 0.2 10 days before LE’s Season 2, lots of players will still play LE.
If they release 0.2 10 days after LE’s season 2, lots of players will leave to play PoE2 and likely won’t return.
So given the choice between PoE2’s new major patch releasing just before or just after LE’s, I’d choose the former.
GGG has no need for that.
They’re the powerhouse of the genre. Other games work around their dates… not the other way around.
Also which players from LE? The playercount is extremely low, GGG has no need to grab 10k players and hence design their schedule around that aspect, for them the existence of EHG is a fantastic thing even… LE isn’t a competitor currently in the state the game is in. They’re an idea factory without a chance to catch up to GGG as GGG takes those ideas and implements them their own way. It’s basically free R&D for them, being able to see what parts of something the playerbase likes without having any sort of risk attached to it.
I wish they would take crafting idea…
By the way, difference in how auction or loot filter works is demonstrating difference in their overall approach about game development. GGG are all about efficiency and speed in this area, if trading works via website, and loot filter can be edited in notepad — it’s not priority, players can do it and GGG will rather spend time to work on game’s content as much as possible. In case of auction it is kind of went too far, but it shows the difference very well. EGH will never do such things because it’s below their standards, etc. GGG don’t care about how it looks like, they are just trying to maximize player’s experience.
From my side, D4 is completely out of the radar and POE2 is a big “no” until whole crafting is redone and SSF is appealing enough - late this year earliest.
Schedule for first half of the year will be MH Wilds, LE and Xenoblade Chronicles X… with MTG Arena as filler.
There’s a new Xenoblade Chronicles? Totally passed by me, that’s a nice one!
And yeah PoE 2 will need a while to work out, though GGG actively said that their take on crafting is not a rework but a similar work-up like in PoE 1, where future content will provide more options.
I wouldn’t write it off yet before 0.2 releases, seeing what that brings. Much as I wouldn’t write off LE 1.2 until it releases, seeing how substantial their changes will be.
It’s not new Xenoblade game, it is a remake from the WiiU. Story-wise and from pacing POV it’s the worst Xenoblade by far.
But holly molly, its the best play-wise by a huge margin. I won’t say much because I don’t want to spoil too much but… let’s say that its end-game is absurdly good. I recall that first time I “finished” the story it took me roughly ~100h but I stop playing close to 500h… and only because once you kill the “big boy” in two shots there is not that much to proof afterwards.
Grinding endgame in that game is sooooo rewarding. Current ARPGs could learn few things from it…
Dragonkin, Titan quest 2 should both be released in March. Titan quest might be quite small EA version though, not sure. You can play Dragonkin Demo right now btw.
I not agree totally with you, if effectly work as you said for those people, that are anyway the people that know and appreciate a lot LE regardless, for the majority of the streamers and promoter of the genre, that especially for these type of game are probably the strongest component that bring new players, if LE season 2 will start before new PoE2 patch they for sure will be playing it, even for just 5/10 days of the time between LE new season and PoE2 new patch, and for sure this can bring new players in the game, in the other way instead I don’t know how many of the big streamers will stop playing PoE2 for the season 2 of LE after just some days, but we will see
Welp. POE 2 update 0.2 launches two days later on the fourth. Which is almost the worst timing it could be.
If EHG is able to push Season 2 out a week early then they can definitely help themselves immensely.
Yeah, having only 2 days to try LE before Poe 2.0.2 launch is unfortunate. I agree that if they could release LE a week earlier, it would be very nice, we would have time to finish campaign and try the endgame. Well, it’s not end of the world anyway, we can try it later, or some people will play Poe 2 later, but would be nice to have time to try endgame before Poe 2.
EHG for sure should push back the release by 2 weeks or at release early by a week.
IMO If the release date for Last Epoch stays the same, EHG will see dramaticaly lower sales of supporter packs, etc. many players will not even try the new Last Epoch season because what is the point for 2 days … but I assume EHG is aware of that by now.
Also, in the future, EHG should would wait for GGG to make the announcements before making any announcements. Seems like GGG is not going to play nice.
EDITED.
I don’t give a rats behind about the PoE2 patch. This game will be in EA for another year at least I guess so I couldn’t care less. S2 launch of LE is only once so I give it a spin to see if something meaningfull changed. If I start PoE2 on day one or not makes no difference for me. The only people “hurt” by that are content creators who need to make a choice what game they’ll cover.
PoE coiming out and setting the date without giving a flying fuck about their competetors would make it easy for me to descide what game I would promote as a content creator.
I don’t think any more delay would be any good in a long run, if S2 is polished and ready to go. Promotion is out and I think it’s very well recieved.
They could also double down and add some event to keep/attract players, like race or get something for free after reaching 90 lvl in 1-2 weeks.
I think regardless the Poe2 release the game will have a good comeback with this second season, i also think that can match the day one peak, or anyway reach the 200k concurrent player, LE is not as small as many people think, and the actual situation ironically enough can bringh even more people in the game.
But yes, if they can anticipate the release of just one week will be great, also for the mediatic clamor of the actuals situation, and so they can turn this in a good opportunity that should be taken.
Anyway we also don’t know what new is coming in Poe2, so also that can make a huge difference, at least for me when it’s come down to switch game beetween LE and Poe2.
Please bring the release date forward by at least 1 week. If it is not possible, bring it forward by 1 month. To be honest, I like Poe 2 more, but I find what they are doing unethical. So I am on your side, and you should be on the players’ side and please make changes to the release date.
That’s a very narrow-minded perspective.
Even players who have no interest in Path of Exile or any other game will still be affected. How? This situation could lead to significantly fewer players participating in Season 2, potentially causing a major drop in profits. That, in turn, might slow down the game’s future development.
Anyone competing in market environment has a inherent downside when starting late.
Also the chance to get spoilered for new content rather then experiencing it yourself.
Yes, PoE since it has the higher reach overall and a bigger longevity then LE has, hence allowing to keep people longer interested with the content.
Also EHG is not doing ‘Jimmy’s first day in school’ so anyone needs to coddle them… they’re in a damn business environment and smaller competitors or if you’re less well received for some reason have to damn well adjust to the monolith of their respective sector or fail, not the other way around.
Blizzard actively tried to go against that with GGG and their streams turned into ghosttowns when they did.
Should tell enough. It’ll hurt LE quite a lot if they stay, and it’ll hurt them if they move the date back. They could only move it forward, but I don’t think they planned on having that option even, which they should for the next time though.
Absolutely!
The question is though mostly ‘will streamers go back to LE after PoE or not?’ simply. 2 Days isn’t a long time to get heavily engaged, so it’s even unlikely for the large streamers to do those few days of LE in the first place. And they’re reliant on the bad execution of PoE 2 to even pull people in half-way decently close.
So I think it’s a bit worse then that even.
Unethical? That’s a fairly nonsensical thing to say.
Positioning your product shortly before easter is a good move. Giving up that spot willingly to your competition - when you had a darn long time to release aynthing new since your new game was ‘all hands on deck’ for faaaar too long and the first one hence suffering from it as well - would be the peak of idiocy.
I’m glad GGG aren’t idiots, otherwise it would be fairly devastating what that would’ve to say about the quality of their competition.
Considering that tencent owns 100% of GGG and 20% of LE, that isn’t as clear cut as you’re making it out to be.
The overall player engagement they’ll get from both games will be lower overall (because some will choose LE over PoE2 and other will choose PoE2 over LE), so they’re effectively losing money with this.
On the bright side, unhappy POE2 players can now say, if you don’t change X or Y I’m going to play Last Epoch. D4 wasn’t a viable option to POE players, LE is. Many a game has taken off because other games weren’t doing it for them but they wanted to play something a little different, but the same. Balance changes will be important. Look for weaknesses in POE2 that its playerbase hates or wants to see changed, and make LE appealing to them.
