New Season 4 Mage Build for Pyrolith & Cryolith Set

Hello Travelers,

I wanted to share an underrated build that nobody seems to be talking about. It’s a spellblade that uses the brand new 2-ring set items Keplehan’s Pyrolith & Cryolith from Season 4. I saw these items in the patch notes and couldn’t ignore them.

This is new Mage tech and introduces a new playstyle to the Spellblade. It’s a ton of fun!
Check out the build guide video I made here: https://youtu.be/CGksPpgKn5o?si=z249cPMxyZ2IlZ-c

And if you have any feedback or suggestions for improvements I’d love to hear about it!
Looking forward to seeing what you folks think.
Thanks

Few questions as i haven’t even consider such build, so maybe i’m missing something:

  1. why bother with void resistance when orian’s eye converts void damage taken to fire? i’ve never played with it, but it sounds like void resistance is pointless here. and why overcap it?
  2. you focus on getting crit chance high, but you don’t take prodigy passive node, which would double your crit chance and free some affixes, which focus on increasing crit chance.
  3. wrongwarp confuses me. wouldn’t crystal wand with decent stats be better here?
  4. transcriber’s graver also confuses me. crystal sword with spell damage won’t be more useful?
  5. also blessings focus on resistances, which are already capped and/or not needed.

Hi Traveler, and thanks for sharing!

I enjoy seeing fun builds, and even better when they’re visually appealing. An option to try playing when I can get myself back to playing Mage.

You’re correct to call out the void resist and Orian’s Eye thing, this isn’t the best optimized build - it’s been a work in progress so there’s some oversights and mistakes baked in. But it’s still very fun and effective, I’m running 335 corruption rn. I’m not the best min/maxer, I’m more interested in fun and thematic builds, to be transparent.

I hadn’t taken the Prodigy node because the damage is sufficient so far and I was focused more on increasing survival from passive points. But you totally could go for more crit.

I was using a Crystal Wand, but I took Wrongwarp because it gives haste and increased spell damage based on movement speed. We do many hits per second so we always have haste. That is the one benefit of Wrongwarp over Crystal Wand, because you can slam any affix from crystal right on to wrong warp. Much of my gear could be improved with 2LP & 3LP.

Transcriber’s Graver gives the bulk of our damage from equipment, and why we chose spellblade instead of the other mage masteries. Graver increases Volcanic Orb damage by a lot, but it also increases our speed/range of Flame Rush. Speed of Volcanic Orb and Flame Rush are important for our DPS, since the VO orbits us. More VO speed = more hits. The main rotation here is Flame Rush + Mana Strike which generates tons of volcanic orbs that orbit the mage.

Blessings could use some tweaking, as you mentioned my void resist is redundant.

Thanks for checking in! It’s a lot of fun to play.
