New player observations 40 hours in

Loot filter is great. If D4 had this type of loot filter, i would have never found last epoch.

early game is too slow. early skills dont feel impactful, trash mobs become sponges if you are exploring and skill suboptimally. this will turn of so many new players come release. first impressions do count.

“cities” or hubs feel disjointed early on both visually and pathing wise.

monoliths are too repetitive and could use higher mob density at times.

dungeons are great until you realize that you have to start over if you die. especially problematic when you died on the end boss which you have seen for the first time and didnt immediately understand the mechanics.

boss fights in general are often awkward. it feels like i push them into a corner which means their mechanics happen against a wall or are concentrated in 50% of the area they should be in.

the graphics and music could need an overhaul. i dont know why but some of the graphics and effects feel dated.

having said all this. i am still here, having a good time. keep up the good work. i am sticking around.

edit: forgot two things.
i wish i could adjust the size, color of the mouse pointer
looting is painful, either let me make the loot markers bigger and more responsive to click or add a pet of some kind that autoloots for me. would even be happy to pay for it as an mtx lost ark style.

Because some of them are. IIRC, the pre-Imperial era section of the game has seen the most reworks in terms of graphics & mobs to make them more interesting/look better.

Not happening, there’s various comments by the devs on this (mainly in relation to crafting mats, but it’d apply to the items themselves moreso). And that would be even less likely if you had to pay for the pet, again, there’s several threads ongoing about this so I won’t rehash it here. TLDR, P2W = bad.

Yeah, the moveability of the larger bosses is weird & not ideal, especially (but not limited to) the dragon-type bosses.

Not quite sure I agree with you, so, which ones specifically?

Really? Did you upgrade your weapon reasonably frequently? Generally the early game is quite easy, IMO & most of your power comes from your weapon rather than the low level skills (later on it’s the reverse & skill/passive points matter more than your gear) since you can’t take many big damage nodes.

IMO, D4 would need more complex loot to require a loot filter.

That’s kind of new player feedback I expected calling out every issue there is. LE is still a game to have fun with and to kill some time with. With the overhype that is broduced by some content creators those kind of threads might pop up even more. Sad thing.

This has been an issue and they have tried to fix this but it hasn’t been successful yet. I do believe they are still working on making it so you can’t push them.

When you do see an issue you might want to do a search on the forum to see if it has been posted before and if there has been a response, it might help you understand the status of the issue.

Yeah, it’s kind of normal. New players have complaints just like we did when we first encountered an issue. They need to be encouraged to report bugs as they find them, but taught to first search to see if they have already been reported. We all have our own learning curve which can be very different from one another, especially for us older folks. :sunglasses:

I agree with the comment on monster density. It is far too low in general.

And I pretty much disagree with everything else in OP.

And this has to be the first time I’ve ever heard anyone describe the campaign - especially early campaign - as anything other than a monster murder spree, with zero challenge.

How I translate this: Early game respeccing is far too punishing so players cannot easily fix stupid choice of skills or skill points. Nor can they even experiment freely with their build to see what works and what doesn’t, and what combos well together. Respeccing in LE feels like loss of progression. This is such bad design for a modern ARPG and does a great dis-service to the game. The levelling portion of this game is basically extremely anti build experimentation, and that is just bad.

For a game that offers such build depth, I find it truly bizarre that respeccing is so punishing early game, when it matters most to new players’ opinions and experience.

That’s conflating autolooting pets with p2w. Devs can always add a basic autolooting pet in game, cosmetic pets just become a fancier version of such pets.

The fundamental question then becomes “do the devs want autolooting in game?”

Honestly, I would say that they don’t necessarily mind them autolooting gold around you, but they see no need for it. Personally, I don’t either.
This is further compounded by the fact that gold will become a much more valuable resource once trading comes.

it’s not so much about the bugs it’s more about the design “flaws” mentioned. I often question myself if I see things the wrong way but then posts like this pop up and topics are mentioned that are not so great for years now.
