Hi! I just started playing and I created a rogue character. But I have an issue that I’d like to know if it will persist or not. So my problem has been that I feel like I’m not doing any damage and I take a lot of damage. Starting area encounters with those flaming bugs takes forever because I need to hit and flee all the time so I won’t die. I just wonder did I pick a bad class and should I switch or will this change soon?
They are all very well balanced, there is no bad class. Just get familiar with your skills and dodge enemy attacks. Check for perks on your weapons and armor that support your skills/playstyle. For build guides use maxroll.gg, yt and whatnot.
Okay, thanks I will look into those. But is there a moment in this game where these encounters could become a lot faster? For example, can you start to one-hit normal enemies later on? Or will each encounter be dodging and hitting?
Soon you will get better skills that will make it much easier, especially puncture, but rogue playstyle is mostly hit and run, really.
I really chose my character based on looks, so I’m considering changing if rogue means mostly hit and run playstyle
There are builds that aren’t like that, but rogues are more squishy and rely more on being fast. You’ll have an easier time with a bow, but general gameplay will be kiting them and throwing your skills behind you. Especially in the lower levels.
Okay thanks for clarification. I’ll give a try to other classes 'till I find one that suits me
You might want to try a Primalist or Sentinel, they can take some hits.
No problem, you’ll have fun trying things out. Most classes can create most archetypes, and the first few levels will be harder for you until you find a few uniques that can help early leveling.
Find you that you have fun playing with at low levels (acolyte and mage are good choices, but sentinel and primalist will probably be easier at the start) and when you have better gear you can return to the rogue and have fun with it.
I see. I just didn’t want to risk it by hoping that Rogue becomes different to play with so I asked help here to know if that is the case. Also, I’m very overwhelmed by all the information given so I’ll take my time.
No worries, you did right in asking. Might as well have fun from the start and if hit and run isn’t yours, just try something else. If you tell us the playstyle you prefer we can also give you more advice on what to start with.
Hey there! Welcome to the community.
Would like to add if you kinda enjoyed Rogue in any way, I’d suggest you to give it a try til at least mid campaign before ditching it, since all classes are fairly balanced when it comes to end game content, and like DJ said, most of them can be build quite differently for lots of playstyles.
It’s really only the early game that Rogue and Mage will feel kinda, huh… clunky. Both are loads of fun anyways!
Yes, dodging and hitting is needed later on. Bosses have mechanics you can learn so you know what their next move will be and dodge. Its not like you can stand there afk and tell them jokes until they die from laughing. XD Im sure that there will be yt videos on boss mechanics.
I can speak for the mage, that’s what I’m playing now. I chose Sorcerer and he’s about 85 now and getting close to empowered monoliths. Fun class.
I’ll go to sleep after this reply so I’ll answer back tomorrow…
But yes, I’m not really into hit-and-run playstyle where you are getting close for quick melee and running or constantly keeping distance while sometimes stopping to shoot an arrow. But I do like ranged classes and I liked Wizard in D3 back in the day a lot, so if there is kinda a way to replicate the same type of lighting build with mage I could go for that now. But I don’t have a problem with melee either, the only things I don’t like are being a low DPS tank or low health. Basically, mid-tier hp and dmg classes float my boat.
Hope you get a vision of my preferred playstyle based on what I said, and if you have any tips, tricks, and suggestions for classes and builds, I’ll appreciate them
For me a 2h with +life gain on hit while using flurry solved the survivability issue.
Yes, you can do Mage with lightning. In fact, in LE, many skills can be converted to other damage types. Anyway, Mage also has the Runemaster mastery, which is fun, although you should watch a video about them, since they require some management of their runes and you should see if that’s the playstyle for you, since mastery choice is permanent.
