New player first impressions

Hi,

first, I’d like to thank you for such a great game. I got it on Steam recently and played around 40 hours last week. I found it by looking for something else to play after a complete disaster with D2R servers and my decision to stop supporting Blizzard. They don’t deserve any money at this point. You guys on the other hand do

I decided to write this first impression so you know what might put off some people from this great game of yours.

  1. Character creation and character select screen
When I first saw I thought that game is in less than alfa state, everything about it looks like some kind of placeholder, ugly graphics and overall looks very offputting. I wished there was just a list of characters without any graphics when I first saw it. It’s shame because the first impression is very important as you keep it in your mind for a long time.

  2. Starting zone and first era
After character creation continues with picking up the shard. All void stuff looks very unpolished and reminds me first days of learning what 3d graphics is. This was the second time I almost left the game since I thought it will look the same whole game. I’m very glad I didn’t leave since the divine era is just awesome. There I checked every corner of the campaign to just enjoy its beauty. In the first era, I ran as fast as I could just. I thought in the last fight with the snake lady that those void elements are some kind of graphical glitch. That much difference is there.

I didn’t pay much attention to lore, but I wish the divine era was the first you see in your game and void stuff era would be just a glimpse before the late game. Or give the first era some love to level it with the quality of the divine era before adding new content. I’m sure a lot of people get put off by the first part of the game.

Once again thank you guys for the awesome game and its mechanics (skills, builds, crafting and echoes) it’s in the sweet spot not being as overcomplex as PoE and not as simple as D2 with runewords that ruin the whole online experience.

I wish you the best of luck in the future!

Welcome to the community!

It’s about right. The Primalist got a new and reworked model recently, the Sentinel will have it next patch and the other classes will come later. The whole interface is, as you noticed, a placeholder. EHG focuses on the core of the game and will handle all these elements later, a bit before launch.

Ha ha! Maybe that’s due to the nature of the Void, which cannot produce elaborate shapes. But it’s true, that gives an impression that is not overwhelming.
I also like the Imperial Era, but it lacks variety of colour. In that sense, I do prefer the Divine Era, which looks awesome!

Fixed text from imperial to divine era. I meant era with fire bird and Lagon and snake lady  It is just next level. Compared to ruined era.

Hey… Welcome…

Shtrak is correct… The game has been getting incremental graphical updates with each patch so there will be a big difference in the quality of everything (maps, skill effects, GUI, character models, mobs etc) from one area to another depending on when last it was updated… When you compare the oldest stuff to the newest (like Chapt 9) you will see a HUGE difference in quality and polish…

The devs will get to it all eventually… but imho, they really have to finish the game / content first
