New Player Beta Feedback

Hi Everybody!

Just ran two characters through the beta story content. Tried a bit of the endgame, but didn’t really find it engaging (but I’m sure that will change as more is added.)

In general I found the game very enjoyable and did not regret my purchase. I’m very much looking forward to seeing how the game progresses through the phases.

Here’s my specific feedback so far:

Story/Quests

  • Liked the Chrono Trigger style story. It seems only one sub-class (Void Knight) has any time related abilities. Maybe these should be more available given it’s a central aspect of the game?
  • Doctor Who time tunnel animation should be skippable after the first time.
  • Did not like the quest direction arrows appearing as soon as you enter an area. Thought it discouraged exploration and made the game seem overly linear. Maybe have them appear once you’re within a certain distance of a quest location?

Levels/Environments

  • Outdoor areas and caves were quite nice, the interior environments were a mixed bag.
  • The ruined armoury areas with the molten glow to offset the relentless purple were a highlight.
  • The sewers were maybe a low point with the poor creature models and water particle effects.
  • Many areas feel randomly generated even though they’re not. Could just be a personal thing because they’re broken up into PoE size chunks rather than a more seamless world like Grim Dawn.
  • Everything is very wide open, this could be because of the severe pathing issues, but would be nice to have some more complex geometry once pathing is fixed.

Combat/Mobs

  • Everything dangerous is well telegraphed for the most part.
  • Combat feels responsive. Hopefully the stutters will be addressed.
  • I liked that mobs would attack enemy faction mobs.
  • The taunt/aggro behaviour seems weird. I had mobs running past me to attack my illusory tree two screen widths away. I had a patriarch in a monolith absolutely determined to ignore me and attack a distant ice golem.

This is getting long so I’ll post stuff about skills, itemization and classes a bit later. Hats off to the devs and designers for their work so far!

Hehehe. Yea agree on this point.

You’re probably right. But I’m an efficiency whore and kinda like it the current way. My only complain is that the arrow doesn’t look pretty enough. But that’s ofc a minor issue.
