Is it me or do all the “mechanics” in arpg’s seem to be “dodge this one shot” but just in different forms? All you need to do is dodge “mechanic” & wait for an opening to continue doing damage and that’s fine, but I want more diversity.
As an example of what I would enjoy, let’s take a look at Destiny 1, Vault of glass, 6 man raid. There is a boss mechanic in the game where 1 player grabs & holds a relic, which is used to remove an invulnerability shield on the boss. No one can damage the boss until the shield is removed. The relic, then needs to be charged by killing trash mobs that flood the area. Once the relic is fully charged, the player holding the relic can shoot the boss w/ it to take his shield down, allowing the entire party to then cause a damage phase. The bosses shield is only down for 5ish seconds before it returns & a new phase begins. Rinse and repeat.
These “raids” could drop specific gear, making the content desirable to play by the community & would add a layer of difficulty to the game. You could even go as far as increasing the difficulty of the “raid” by making them “normal”, “heroic” & “epic” or what ever. Each layer of difficulty drop more exotic gear the higher you go. You could limit drops for the exotics to 1 chance per week, per difficulty, giving players a reason to return the following week if they did not get the drop they want.
These are the types of mechanics I would love to see introduced to this game. Not sure if it’s even possible, but if it is it would be super dope imo. Just my thoughts and ideas, I welcome yours to the discussion.
TLDR: Can we have boss mechanics that are more than just “dodge this one shot”, please?
Even if most of the mechanics are not that diverse in LE yet. LE still has waaaay more mechanically impressive boss fights than any other similar game. It might be not perfect yet, but LE can still improve on what it already has.
There are some boss fights in similar aRPG’s that have telegraphed mechanics too, but most of the time it’s just tank&spank.
The first time i did the new MoF, Bosses i really felt like being in a MMO dungeon, which felt great. If they improve upon it, this can become truly great.
Totally agree here! Love the current state of the game as it is, but would just like to see something new in the genre as a whole. Raids, or what ever you want to call them, would be fun in this game I think.
Yes i am also curious what devs have in mind when thinking about mechanics already present in solo play, what we could potentially get in coop/party play.
Marvel Heroes did had “RAID” content in an aRPG, which was awesome. Was so fun and engaging.
As far as i know devs don’t want to make content access restrictions, so they want to avoid having content only doable in MP. But lets see.
There is alot of potential that could come with MP in general, but also when thinking about some more cool mechanics that could be implemented for solo players.
I’m totaly for more skill based mechanics but there are problems with these mechanics. Look at an easy example… Wildstar was a game where you need to constantly be ready to jump out of harms way. You had no down times and the monster attack telegraph patterns remembered resambled a picture from a mad man more then an attack pattern.
To get through with the raid prequest you had to do dungeons flawless and my oh my people got mad about this because it was “to hard”. Well it wasn’t but they nerved it anyway and yes the game is dead ^^.
Marvel Heroes was nice in the beginning but went south pretty quick I don’t think this is a meaningfull compairson. The raids were only fun when they were overtuned but they died to the power creep pretty fast.
For a single player titel that has a “all content is doable solo” promise like a dev stated in a thread about MP content the only mechanics you have to deal with are telegraphs that needed to be dodged and that’s it. Even Lost Ark single player content is just cc lock enemys and tear them down… it looks only flashier.
I don’t think we’ll get new and intresting mechanics and it’ll just be the good old “Don’t stay in crap!” gameplay we know for a long time.
Take my comment with a grain of salt because LE bores me to death right now and I avoid it like a plaque.
