? New dexterity class

Just want to say good work EHG for all the new updates and efforts you guys have put in already. This has really come a long way in the last few years!

I know it’s looking very far ahead, especially since some subclasses have not yet been realized yet. However just wondering whether there could be a new dexterity class (so far only rogue). A good fit would be martial artists/monk from the orient with subclasses using sword, fists, staff…etc

Would be a nice new addition and something new to stand apart from other ARPGs currently. Anyway just a thought. Keep up the good work EHG!

I think new classes or Masteries will be awesome in the very long term.
Masteries will be far more likely to be added before an entire new class (because a new class would mean much more work with 3D models, Animation, voice over, opening cinematic etc.)

While I agree that new classes will bring new life into the game and build diversity, your specific suggestions are far from something that would make LE “stand apart”. Everything you listed already exists in several other similar games^^

Not to say it’s bad to have these, but it is not really unique.

Somehow Forge Guard has a passive node that grants dexterity and converts dodge rating to armour. It also has several passive nodes for throwing attacks, which scales with dexterity.

So maybe at some point Forge Guard was meant to be a partially dexterity mastery?

Probably in the first expansion or DLC.

Once LE has the 15 basic Masteries, it will only need 30 more to keep up with the number of distinct classes available in Grim dawn.

I don’t think Grim Dawn is a good example of “Distinct Classes”.

While the Titan Quest/Grim Dawn dual class system has its charm, most of the classes are very replaceable and a lot of attacks use very similar effects or animations with minimal gameplay difference.

As much as LE is lacking currently in some departments.
In regards of class identity and “distinctness” LE is top tier across all ARPG’s for me.

It is the best example. Not only are its 45 classes distinct, any one of those classes can be totally different to another example of the same class. For example, I have 6 Reapers in GD and they all play completely differently. I know LE is similar but GD has far more actual variety and viability. Example, in LE that there are dozens of Sorcerer builds, but how many of those run Teleport and Flame Ward and (to a lesser extent) Focus?

Hi there, thanks for the comment. Yeah definitely would be a long term /DLC type expansion and not short term. they do need to finalize the masteries first!

As far as I understand the only dex focused class at the moment is rogue, whereas int and strength both have two classes already. Plus asians are not represented at all in the current line-up and they make up a huge market  So I think this would nicely fill the niche. I only know of one other ARPG that has a monk/martial artist class (diablo 3), and that was quite limited in terms of build diversity. Lost ark does have martial artist classes, but strictly speaking LA is more of a MMORPG than a traditional ARPG. If you know others, pls let me know

Anyway, I would personally love to see/play martial artist as a class with its own masteries, though I know this may be a dream that never materializes…

Forge Guard needs a serious rework. I would actually like if they went further into the dex throw style and the forged weapons/armor stuff.

I’d like to throw my hat in with the suggestion for a martial artist. Doesn’t even have to be from the east, but anything that uses tonfa/fist gauntlets, has punches and stylized kicks. There’s not a single new arpg (from the last 5 years) that I’ve found that has this archetype. Since it is my absolute favorite type of class, I’m very disappointed to never really be able to play the class I most identify with in any arpg.

The latest POE 2 teaser seemed to be showing a monk class, though he was fighting with a staff.

I vote for a Kensai class.

PoE doesn’t really work like that though. That’d have just been some melee skills with a staff. Not like any of the other arpgs.

As a defensive layer, Dex is pretty bad. Dodge isn’t really very good. It doesn’t scale well (not enough % dodge maybe). If there were a new dex class, I would like it to focus heavily on recovery between hits (Ward or High HP Regen). It would also probably need some good DoT mitigation.

I don’t really care about the fantasy theme as much as the mechanics. Spellblade would have been a good class for Dex if it had more options on its tree to get high dodge.

While thematically dodge would fit a low hp deflecting fighter. In terms of mechanics dodge needs a high hp/ward character.
One of the issues of the entire defensive mechanic that makes otherwise strong effects like dodge and block rather lacking, is the ability of high attack speed and leech.
With those in place like they currently are, the damage recovery is so high that it doesnt really matter if all or only half of the enemys attacks deal damage, the way more important question is if i can survive an enemy attack at all if it hits.
Thats why bastion is the only real shield in the game, cuz even 10% damage reduction on every hit is more useful than 100% damage reduction on 25% of all hits. Even if you could buff those by reducing the effect of other defensive layers (damage reduction hp ect.) If you think about it you see pretty quickly that 80% of all hits would still not be enough neither 90% nor 99%. I can recover infinite hits if my damage reduction is good and reliable.

Maybe a fix to Dodge given that, would be to have it increase Glancing Blow chance as a secondary effect. Similar to how Armor works on non-physical hits as a secondary effect.
