Negative interactions with Crest of Unity unique

The unique Crest of Unity makes elemental nova tri-elemental. I’m not sure if it’s intended but this actually disables other effects in the elemental nova skill tree.

For example, Elemental Tranquility increases the freeze rate, shock chance and ignite chance depending on the nova. Wearing the Crest of Unity actually disables this passive since the tri-elemental nova is not considered an ice, lightning, or frost nova. It’s much more difficult to stack ailments and seems counter intuitive to the function of the Crest of Unity. I believe it might even affect the bonus freeze rate, damage, and critical chance from ice, fire and lightning novas respectively.

I am finding exactly the same thing; this is a useless piece of equipment in its current form. I do think it is a bug though, it doesn’t make sense for it to be any other way.

Of all the talents on the tree, all of them state “Applies to all types of elemental nova” with the exception of:

  • Elemental Tranquility
  • Lightning Nova
  • Fire Nova

And the following, which are just a typo but should apply also to all types:

  • Ice Nova (says it “Applies to all type of elemental nova” (not “types” but “type” not sure if that is programmatically breaking the tree of cold, which is what I use))
  • Arcana Elementorum (as above, “all type” not “all types”

I am only running points in the Ice tree and Arcana Elementorum, but for me, it seems like nothing is applying. Enemies aren’t freezing at all with this type of nova, despite points in Glyphs of Winter and high percentage Freeze Rate Multiplying gear. Other spells are freezing without issue.

DPS is showing pretty high number estimations in the tool tip, but killing anything is taking forever, I expect because the skills are just not being applied (no chill, no freeze, more damage, damage %).

I also do not seem to be gaining ward as I would expect.

Feels like at the very least, the cold tree is turned off, when it shouldn’t be. Either that, or you can have 20+6 points and put 5 of them in Arcana Elementorum and do nothing with the rest and that is intended behaviour…but it seems unlikely right? Especially when reduces damage by 9% from ignited, shocked or chilled enemies, but is not igniting, shocking or chilling the enemies…

I would hope we didn’t lose any points to non-working skills in the tree, but I could handle losing the value on the path points required if it was only the few that don’t apply to all nova types.

As it stands right now, having this in the game is actually bad, because once you put the 6 points into your tree, find the gear is not working properly and then take the gear off, you almost certainly end up with points in parts of the tree you don’t want them with fewer points available, and then you have to respec your tree to fix it all. It’s literally lose lose.

+1, I noticed this too and I doubt this is intentional behavior. Hope it makes the bugfixes soon.

I am pretty devo, because I literally built my character around Teleporting Elemental Nova, the gear finally drops and…it doesn’t work…

There’s another negative interaction I posted in a separate thread. Wearing crest of unity disables ignite/ailments from certain sources specifically from passives like Dragon Breath and the skill tree node Elemental Tranquility. But for some reason ignite from the Immolation node is not impacted?

I hope they get this fixed soon.

Pretty sure that the damage (which should now scale from each of the three element PER cast) is not calculated right.
I build a + 450% spell damage (which should scale on fire and cold and lightning) and it doesnt really does show an increase. Even less that much.

My guess would be that, at each tri elemental cast, only ONE element is applied in term of damage and ailment chance (when the passives are not straight buged with the tri element part)

I tried removing ice nova and lightning nova, leaving only fire nova. Elemental nova still does not benefit from +fire skill ignite chance passive node. It appears that tri-element means none of the elemental.

I did some more tests with my friends. It appears that Crest of Unity is only bugged on Sorcerers. Runemasters with the unique can trigger Elemental Tranquility normally, while the helmet disables all type-specific ailment effects on Sorcerers.

im also playing this, and the damage output is weird. not because it doesnt ailment, it does apply all ailments normally. BUT: i did a test with special gear that has a lot of resi but doesnt alter the damage in any way and compared on the dummy. my hit with 17% more damage was doing 2600dmg (average from 50 casts) - and then i put on all the resis to reach 47% more damage and the average from the 50 casts were exactly the same. and i think thats the main damage stat of the item…so totally bugged. ( I also tested it below the cap, one test with 2,4%more and another with 28% more, no difference. So either the item stat or the negative penetration system is not working

its just so weird , considering how long the game is out and how many people play it daily and in total and there is just a handful of people seeing this. people are really following build guides and play the same 3 builds or dont care and play the campaign only. fascinating, and sad for us who like to tinker

Interesting, I’m running Crest of Unity on a Runemaster with a crit-based version of Elemental Nova, but I was thinking about trying out an ailment version. Thankfully this thread came up on a search, I hope this gets fixed soon!

Devs said on reddit this is an intentional interaction and not a bug. Which just feels bad because you turn a node into a point sponge and have to compensate elsewhere to stack ailments.

maybe that one unimportant fact of some passives not working. but the main stat of the item the ele pen is not working. that cant be intended.
