Naming legendary items

Hi, what do you think of being able to name your forged legendary item? Since they are highly individual and powerful items we forged ourselves, wouldn’t that be nice?

Imagine somebody finds a rare wings of argentus with 4 legendary potential and names her “Mathilda”. Mathilda would be known community wide.

I remember games that allowed you to rename items during crafting, a very convenient feature, especially in conditions with legendary items, when the same item will have different fixes.

While the idea is pretty cool and there would certainly arise some hilarious memes out of this, I think a lot of the legendaries will not be as “unique” and “individual” as you think.

There are a lot of uniques, that have BiS affixes you want to put on.

So I think, we will see a lot of very same-y legenaries, at least for some uniques.

Imagine having 10-20 Bastion of Honor.
How to quickly tell them apart from each other?
And this applies to every unique item.
Item name “Bastion for HP” or “Bastion for elemental damage”.
This solves a lot of problems. I honestly don’t see any reason why this shouldn’t be done.

You could just as simply search for health or elemental damage to identify those Bastions. I like the idea though, but would probably only name my items if it took me a really long time to farm, or it was a legendary with 3-4 affixes for my favorite build etc etc.

Yeah… If everybody would have 20x Bastion Of Honor as a legendary in the stash, I see the problem. But this won’t happen.

How do you come to the conclusion that we all will be sitting on tons of legendaries when the patch drops? They will be harder to obtain than exalted items. If this is not the case with the current numbers, EHG will tweak them.

Legendaries are supposed to be endgame chase items. And before I would create 20 times the same legendary, I would try to distribute legendaries over my other equipment, too.

I think you are creating a problem where there is none.

Sure, naming items would be a cool feature. But it’s far from being a necessity because of the reasons you name.

If this is a personal change everything is fine but I realy don’t want to see “Roxxors penis breaker” in an auction. Just a mild example of names people will come up with.

it is a matter of time before players have more and more items. In a year, everyone will already have a lot of these unique items and legends.

Yes, I thought about that and I have two remarks. First, you could use a profanity check which already exists for character names and chats. Second, you could add the option to rename in case trading becomes a thing.

I’d also like to add that I think by no means this is a must Feature. It is a “nice to have”, a quality of life feature.

As I said: If it’s a personal thing to filter stuff I’m happy but if it’s something public then no thx. On top of it no profanity filter is good enough and you will see nasty stuff sooner then later.

Sounds cool. I’d be down for it!

There is a quest in diablo 2 that allows you to name an item after completeing it, its nice when I look at my character and see The Comedian’s Harlequin Crest Shako :facepunch:
