Mystery of Ignite Damage

Hi everyone,

currently I´m tring to create an ignite paladin, but I´m just do not get why the ignite damage of different skills differ in their damage/tick output.
I searched the forum and other websites for explanations on how the ignite damage is tranfered and calculated on the target, but did not find anything that would explain it in a way that would match the number that i get.

Used 3 differnet skills on the trainings-dummy, each is displaying a other ignite tick/sec which is more than confusing.

Background:
In my character profil is stated that my ignite damage is 485 and a displayed ignite chance of 156%.
As i use Calamity and Soulfire this chance will be much higher (already know that the ignite chance of these itmes is not displayed).

Ignite damage/tick for each skill:
Shield throw: ~500/tick
Smite: ~159/tick
Judgment hit: ~130/tick
Judgment aura explosion: ~250/tick

Shouldn´t the lowest tick of ignite be 485, or do i have to divide this number by its duration (~3 Sec)?
Secondly, why does the ignite tick differ even though all ignites triggering above are triggered on hit and are all fire skill (shield throw also has the tag fire) , therefore they should all benefit from the same stats (incl. Calamity and Soulfire)?

Thx in advance for any explanations or hints

Yes, as the tool tip on the character screen says, the stated damage is dealt over 3 seconds, therefore the ignite’s damage should be 161 per sec (rounded down).

Ailments (bleed, ignite, poison & future strike) all benefit from the 4% increased damage per point of the attribute that the skill that proc’s them uses. So Strength for Shield Throw & Judgement and Attunement for Smite, additionally, Judgement gains 4% damage from Attunement (in a roundabout way as Judgement gets a damage increase from your healing effectiveness & 4% increased healing effectiveness from Attunement).

From the sound of the description, perhaps Judgement’s AoE isn’t actually an ignite, but a despoke fire damage over time & that’s why it’s giving a completely different damage figure (in the same way that poison & plauge are both DoTs that do poison damage but are mechanically different)?

Smite is also a bit different as it’s currently (still) bugged in that it can only proc ailments from it’s own skill tree (so ignite or shock if you spec into them).

Ailments don’t scale from any other modifiers from the skill (unless otherwise stated, such as Serpent Strike that gets an increased poison duration) but they can proc multiple times & Shield Throw’s Eruption node counts as 2 hits to the original target (Shield Throw’s hit + the AoE).

I’m not sure why Jugement’s melee hit is doing such low ignite damage though, it should be doing at least ~161 plus 4% x however much strength you have.
