My opinion about the QoL in the game

Hello everyone!

After three years and one thousand hours of playing this wonderful game, I decided to write the first post with my thoughts on the current state of the project and its future. It would be interesting to hear other people’s opinions, and how many of you would agree with mine.

Here I will talk mainly about QoL options, because more content (new dungeons, pinnacle bosses, endgame variations, etc.), improved graphics and animations, optimization, bug fixes, reduced rmt capabilities, and so on will come over time if developers continue to monitor the game and player feedback.

So, compared to other games of the genre, there are a huge number of functions for the convenience of the player, but there are also no obvious or, conversely, stupid solutions (in my opinion). I have collected all of those that I encounter all the time, even though there have been so many conversations about these problems here and on reddit…

(This is not a top, but just a list)

  1. Why do we need arenas like echoes in monoliths?

If I want to go to the arena, there is a mode of the same name in the game for that, isn’t there, huh? I don’t like that when I want to run through a map, find a chest, kill a Exiled mage, complete an echo task and go to the next one, I have to run back and forth or stand still and wait for waves of enemies! 12 14 16 18 20 waves, maybe let’s make an echo with an endless arena? It’s complete nonsense.

(By the way, has anyone noticed that VERY often, rare rewards, such as unique items, drop just on the echo with arenas?:thinking::thinking:)

  1. Craft materials should be immediately transferred to the craft inventory.

Why do I need extra interaction with this transfer button? I’m not saying that they were picked up like gold, but it’s not particularly interesting to click on it every time. Absolutely unnecessary.

  1. Why aren’t the keys being stacked?

I have 5 tabs with only keys, and one tab is already worth 960 thousand gold! And imagine if all these keys occupied only 4 cells?

4-5. I would like to be able to collapse the sub-tabs in the quick view section, as well as have more icons (for example, there is no quiver icon, why?)

  1. Why can’t I compare a ring or weapon with both rings and weapons on my character, but only with those in the left slot?

  2. Does anyone care that every time a new character has to go through the usual monoliths? A huge waste of time. If my character is capable of going into empowered monoliths right away, why can’t I do it? And then go through it all over again to get blessings with big rolls. It would be cool if the progression was shared between all the characters.

  3. It would also be more convenient if the type of unique items in a certain monolith for target farm were shown next to the quick move button on this monolith. As an old player, this is not so important to me, because for such a long time in the game I have long remembered in which monolith to look for boots, and in which armor, etc.

Now the most important for me thing:

  1. Cycles and Legacy

I am such a person that I do not like to lose what I earned with my efforts and investment of hundreds of hours of time. When, when entering multiplayer into the game, all the characters were transferred offline, this is completely normal. To avoid abuse, file cheats, etc.

But. I hate the PoE or Diablo system, where you lose everything every league/season, accumulated over the last game and start all over again (I absolutely don’t care about the fresh economy, because I don’t play through trading, I want to knock out items myself, farm for a long time, and then enjoy it that the right item has finally dropped out, that’s why I’m playing the game with the grind). Therefore, when developers use the force system, when new content is added only in the season / league /cycle, so that players have an incentive to start from scratch, it really upsets me. I want to have the right to choose, if someone is interested in losing everything that they have been collecting for a long time and starting over, then I am definitely not one of those people. Therefore, I would like the content to be added to both modes at once, so that those who are satisfied with losing everything every 3-4 months (as a rule, these people play on the trade, do not farm their items themselves, so they don’t care)

Most of these disadvantages have a very simple solution, which is not clear why everything remains as it is.

That’s about it. I know there has been a lot of talk about these issues, but I’m just interested in debating. I really love this game and its wonderful developers, and I hope it will continue to develop at this pace. (If only they will fix BUGS, not saying that it is a nerf, and not reduce the price of arena keys. A reference to the Warlock’s Ward and a good opportunity for CoF to farm gold)

Hello and welcome to the LE forums!

I agree. Arena echoes were one of the worst additions to the game mode as a whole. I absolutely despise the game mode and don’t want to be forced playing while doing regular monoliths.
Worst thing on top of it, the variance between different arena echoes is huge. Having 13 or 17 waves is such a huge difference and all the 16 and 17 waves arena echoes feel like a huge drag.

I think the main reason is, that new player learn to interact with it and see what they looted.

There is a very simple answer for that: They don’t have the technology for that yet. There are no items in LE that truely stack. Because stacking items means you need additional integrity checks to avoid loss of items.

They already said they are working on it and it will come eventually.

Also something that is on their list for quite some time. It will come eventually.

I actually disagree. Having some of these more advanced things too much on the forefront can be mroe confusing than helping. And as a new player if you are truely interested in it and want to learn, you will pick it up very fast and remember which item types are in which timeline.

You will not lose anything. It will all stay where it is. The next few cycles will also have no additional exclusive content.
At some point EHG wants to introduce soem things that are cycle exclusive, but they will very likely not be as big as PoE Leagues.

Couldn’t agree more on arenas in monoliths they’re not fun at all.

Yep arenas in monoliths suck big time.

As a new player I can say you’re very wrong.
I have to have a browser page open next to the game to look up where I’m supposed to go, where I can find what I’m searching, and what are the uniques that drop only in which specific monolith.

Less information is just less information, at least have a button to show all the info.

I am speaking from experience, we have a lot of people in our german community that constantly ask questiosn about stuff they see, where they don’t even know what it is yet.

Maybe it is not liek that for everybody, but at least for some people.

Also the game shows the information when you interact with each timeline.

I definitely prefer this, because not having all the information available in one spot incentives actually learning it, rather than just look it up and then forget about it.

I highly dislike when games serve the player all informations on a silver tablet.
There needs to be some sort of involvement from the player side actually wanting to learn and remembering things.

This makes no sense. I want to play, I don’t want homework.
I will eventually remember these things once I do them for long enough, but it’s not something I’m supposed to go out of the game to look up.

Exactly: the information is already there, I just have to teleport and walk up to each prism to see it, it’s unnecessary poor QoL.

You don’t have to go out of the game.

I just have to lose 5 minutes teleporting and walking up to each timeline…

5 minutes? Teleporting within the MoF zone is instantaneous, no loading screen. It literally takes 20 seconds maximum if you can’t remember.

It’s still absolutely an abysmal experience, and that’s why an external browser is still better than staying in game.

Sometimes I just hate how entitled gamers have become with all the information available, including data mining, external ressources etc. They literally want the game to tell them how the game is played in every aspect.

10-15 years ago we had to make a community effort to find out what items drop from what enemies.

Now the game already does tell you things like that, but its still not enough.
It is just moving goal posts over and over again.

I cannot even fathom where we will be in 5-10 years from now.

“Entitled” to say that the way information is displayed in the game is bad and should be more promptly available?

What use is the information on where I have to go if it’s presented in a way that’s akin to “sorry Mario, the specific piece of gear you’re looking for does not drop in this timeline. Try another one.
It’s a random teleport after another until you finally stumble upon what you were looking for.

Sorry if this came across as a personal attack, but I specifically didn’t reply to you and it was more a overall statement regarding the state of gaming communities as a whole.

I just hate beating around the bush. I just hate to use euphemisms.

But the vast majority of “Quality of Life improvements” suggested for a lot of video games is people being entitled af and not wanting to engage with the game.

It is not random! It is fixed and the same from the moment you start playing the game way back until you are deep into endgame.

Play the game and learn the game! This is called learning curve. Similar to what affies are avaialble on which item types. Similar to knowing when which item types can drop based on area lvl etc.

MY TELEPORTING is random, because I don’t know where I have to go!
You may have forgotten how it is because you memorized it already, for new players it’s an absolute dump of an experience.

That is what I am saying, for me, even as a new player or when some of these new systems get implemented. It is not a bad experience.

For you it might, but that doesn’t make it objectively bad.

That is why I said I prefer it this way. The information is already there, but you have to do a little something.

Yes, take a piece of paper and write it down… or open a browser and look it up.

I guess I’m one of the few who kind of likes arena echos? They’re not really a QoL issue though, are they. They’re just game content some people either enjoy or don’t.

As for the other stuff, keys not stacking, etc., that stuff will change over time.

Learning the game and memorizing the DETAILS are not the same thing. I’ve played this game for about 800 hours and i still keep forgetting which monolith i have to go to in order to farm specific items. Additional information (icons) would only be helpful, just like item icons in CoF prophecies.

Well those are my favourite echo types. So I guess we need them for… FUN?

Agreed. But apparently the devs said that manually picking them up is “immersive”.

One tab of keys is more than enough. I stopped picking key up years ago. Have one tab and just start picking up any key you see you are running low on. Either way, sure give us a key-ring.

Agree 110%. The levelling experience between campaign end and empowered is terrible. This takes roughly from level 60 to level 80 and is very very boring. Standard monos are zero challenge and have poor rewards in comparison to empowered. Let me go to empowered as soon as I deem I am ready.

From your description you sound like the same type of player as myself. I only play legacy because I am attached to my (21) chars and am a long-term min-maxer. I also have 50 stash tabs full of awesome items I want to USE. lol

We are in a fortunate situation right now though, in that for the next few cycles legacy and cycle are getting all the same content. So unless you want the leader board or care about a fresh economy, there is zero point in playing cycles whatsoever right now. That suits me fine.

But this will change I suppose. We do not yet know what model EHG will end up with. Probably one of these:

D4 model: No cycle content moves to legacy. When a cycle is done everything in it is gone forever.

PoE model: When a cycle ends some or all of the new content moves to legacy permanently. So win-win.

Enlightened model: All cycle content comes to legacy at the same time and they stay in sync (other than the usual cycle stuff like leader board and seasonal rewards that are cosmetic). This is where we are right now.

Something new model: No cycle content comes to legacy (so D4 basically), however legacy regularly gets its own new content that is nothing to do with cycles and is independent of them. (The devs have actually hinted in the past that this model is where they want to go, but who knows?)

Since we do not know what model we will end up with, the future of the game for me is uncertain. The moment I sense that the D4 model might be in play is the moment I quit this game. Or put another way, the moment it becomes obvious that legacy will no longer receive new content of any meaning, I’ll quit.
