My feedback for devs after 200 hours played in LE

And my question is, why? Why is gender the main thing for you, and the thing your imagination cannot move around?

I think I dont understand where you are going with this, what you want to hear from me?

I am a man, so clearly I have trouble imagining being a woman. Sure, I can do that in some comedic or joking manner for short time, same as roleplay being some animal for fun, but its not natural to me, I quickly lose interest and I dont have fun after a while - so if I intend to play some character for hundreds of hours I prefer a character I can enjoy for long time - and female character is not one of those.

I think they’re just curious (as am I) on where you draw the line and why you do it.
Usually these arguments kinda sound a bit like transphobia (I’m not accusing you or anyone, just what it sometimes looks like), so we’d just like to understand it.

Especially because the basis of RPG is roleplaying. Meaning, assuming a role that isn’t yours.

Not caring about the roleplay aspect in a diablo-like is fine. It’s a game where gameplay is the most prominent feature.
But caring about the roleplay aspect but only on certain terms seems strange to me, since it seems to go against the very basis of what roleplay is.

I’ve played lots of RPGs (including many years playing tabletop) and I’ve never had an issue roleplaying a completely different character from me. In fact, that was my main goal most of the time. I already play as me my whole life, so playing as someone else is refreshing.

Again, not trying to accuse, shame, or whatever, anyone. Just genuinely curious.

Guys, he explained multiple times why the genderlock is a dealbreaker for him. He just does not feel it. Why is this bad? Acceptance and tolerance is not a one way lane. And before you ask, I’d play any character class, regardless of gender(identity), age, skin colour etc. if there are cool builds for it

I’m not saying it’s bad. I’m just curious, like I said.

Personally, if the roleplay aspect of a game isn’t important to me, like in diablo-likes, and I’m going to stare at a model for hours, I’d rather it be female.
So I’m not against gender choice, either.

Yeah I think I got what you were saying. But it triggers me when people like Erasculio try to bait someone into saying something they can act offended about.

My line is that if I play as character for longer time, I want to be able to project myself into that character and quite simply have fun as that character. I am simply not able to do that with female characters - I can play games like Tomb Raider, but I am enjoying her story, for me its like watching an interactive movie. Hovewer, no, I will not enjoy that game for 500 hours and I dont care about building that character, its already done and I am here for the story.

As for trans people and transphobia - I think its a complex issue, I think that it was hijacked by people who dont care about trans people, they just care about looking good, virtue signal and force their view of world onto others under the threat of cancelling them and so on. I think that in some cases the whole transgender topic is weaponized against all sorts of people and whats particularly disgusting and antagonizing for me, that some people force their children into changing gender as again to make themselves look good, virtue signal and so on.

This being said, I have no problem admitting that there are parts which I dont relate to, I consider them strange, weird and so on - but I also know that thats a “me” issue in some ways and its none of my business what others do with their body. In general, I may be slightly xenophobic there and there - I like to have people and things around me, that I am able to atleast somewhat predict how they feel/work/function and I start being nervous if I am confronted with someone/something that I dont know what to expect. But I think this is natural for most people.
Like I said before, in reality, I dont like conflicts, I am actually quite “soft” in a way, because im very empathetic to the point I am taking antidepressants, because I am often depressed how some things are going in the world - I am an idealist, I dont like extremes and I wish all people well and dont understand sometimes why some people do what they do.

So, by now you probably can see where I am coming from in this “issue” - I like to play games as a means to relax, have some fun and sometimes just shut the door from whats going outside in order to rest a bit. And with that gender lock - I like women, I absolutely love my girlfriend and she is center of my world. I also very much like female characters in games and movies, but quite simply dont enjoy playing games as them - it prevents me from immersing myself into the game as much, it prevents me from the “shut the door and relax” part. No problems with others doing that, dont care - they should have fun on their terms as long as it means to not hurt anyone in real life, but myself? Well… male character it is.

Alright. Fair enough. Thank you for your answer.

Oh, this is enough for me.

Sure, you do you. Its offtopic after all and I merely wanted to be polite and answer from what I angle I am coming from. I dont need to people agree with me, just wanted to give my feedback to the devs and sure, Im happy to explain my point of view a bit more. But thats it. :innocent:

As DJSamhein said, I’m just curious as to why you draw a line there and nowhere else.

Maybe the issue is not with the game, but rather within yourself?

I dont see an issue anywhere in this, its just my preference about having fun. If I truly had to pick issue its with performance, UI clickthrough bugs and also hitboxes. Those are flaws that more or less have impact on most of the playerbase and to some of the players quite a significant one.

I am sorry I know this sounds stupid what I am about to say but the simple fact that you have gender locked as high priority just makes me ignore everything else you are saying and move on to a different post. That gender thing should be literally maybe the last thing added to the game unless it can be done in a day or something. I could not care less when I play the game to know which gender my class is.

The beauty of having different opinions. No problem with that, hovewer for me it is high prio and I strongly believe, that EHG can do multiple things and game is now in position so they can start to focus things like these - optimalizations, better looks, some customizations and so on - also I dont expect it now, just dont want to wait for gender change option for eternity and I am certain that I am not alone in this, some people just dont want to get the flak for stating it, I dont mind that.

I am not against you wanting this or anybody else. I am not against having this option in the game. What bothered me was obviously the fact that you consider this as a high priority when there are so many other things that have to be done to the game which will truly help it compared to such option. I know there are others who want this in the game but if you think this is what the game needs to be better and move forward then damn. The game is nowhere near the position to focus on such things imo since it is such a trivial thing as a general impact on the game.

Community in large part has already enough focus on what you say, but things like these are pushed into the abyss. I am here to say that people like me also exist. To be quite honest, I want it all and unless some devs say otherwise with good reasoning, then I believe EHG can deliver on both fronts.

Also if theyre not able to push new content, optimalization and also on the player experience and graphics front simutaneously, I will be concerned - because the game needs all of it - and its 2025. People will not wait that long > something that PoE 2 and other games are finding out the hard way. And as LE is the underdog here, it only means it needs to push, otherwise it will get beaten to corner and forced to take scraps of attention.

I dont mean it in any bad way, but thats the reality - being a dev, being LE in current market is not an easy one, but I will not dance around it - EHG needs to keep it coming now if they want LE to succeed. And make no mistake, most of the players playing this game are men and men are more visually focused - you can see that on me - I care how game looks, how my char looks, how it runs in terms of performance - for me its important requirement close to the good game mechanics itself. I have no problem admitting, that you can have godly game, but if it doesnt look and feel good enough for me, I will not play it - this is Diablo 1 and 2 for me - it just doesnt click for me graphically and thats it, I never wanted to play it - and no, its not about graphics itself - i love XCOM Enemy Unknown - it just needs to “click” - play well and look good. Cant tell the exact borders where it goes good or bad for me, but atleast I can say for myself, that that “plastic” visual look on some things and gender lock do enough to break my immersion and thus the gaming experience.

You can have godly content, but if my brain likes it, but my eyes dont like it I will probably never try that content. And this is what is missing here on the forums - I dont know if people are afraid, dont care or something else, but I think its good to remind devs that there are also players, who also care more about these aspects of the game, than one might think at first glance looking on the forums feedback here.

Again, thats why microtransaction work so well in general - people care about good looks and quite often much more than they say they do. I have no problem admitting this, I care about that also to some meaningful degree, if the visuals dont click with me and i cant immerse myself into my character then thats it, I will eventually leave.

And sure, you can say “so just leave then”, but thats not the good solution here, because with people like me, theres also usually quite significant portion of longterm profits there - and all that for some cosmetics, visuals and so on - thus not toxic for the state of the game itself. Again this circles back to that EHG should work on both aspects here - its good for the game to fight on both sides here.

All I am gonna say is that PoE is the best ARPG out there for many years now and with hard work and creaitvity and nobody gives a damn about the gender lock. As in sure there are people that do but that is not what gave its success clearly so…at the end of the day in most games such thing does not matter for the majority of people and games will still live and exist and move on. I do not want to sound mean when I say this but people with your kind of in game issues barely influence anything imo. Unless the game already has everything above such requests most likely the game(I am talking about games in general of course) will not improve on them soon. Thats just how I see it from my past experience with many of the games I played. Also you talk about all men as if you know all men. I can play minecraft or diablo 4 as a man both games can be just as fun if they fulfill what I want to enjoy at the moment. I dont know my guy all I can say is that at the end of the day I would rather have any other kind of improvement in the game than your silly request.

I have much more issues with LE, i just focus on ones which I feel are downplayed and unneccesarilly so. Its 2025 - ARPG should offer solid basics in all kind of categories, especially those which are more than a year from full release. I really dont see a valid reason why should I not want both good game and also some customization. I am by no means a progressive whiner, I dont want Body type 1 and 2 and so on - just basic male/female in an ARPG game, which does not focus on story driven experience, but rather endgame loop, which expects players to take them many hours.
To me the “X game is also gender locked” sounds the same like “30 FPS is good enough” - no its not, even 60 FPS is bare minimum for any kind of game with a bit faster gameplay.
