Aim Assist
It would be nice to tweak the controller aim-assist / auto-targetting for each individual skill. I’m imagining a dropdown in each skill’s tree screen that lets users pick from a few options:
- Full assistance - the current behavior; whatever interactable object the character is facing is targetted.
- Enemies only - similar to current targetting, but excluding destructibles. For example, Lunge or Meteor. It’s frustrating trying to engage with a pack on the edge of the screen with those skills, only to have them target the barrels to the side, effectively being wasted
- Disabled - no targetting at all, using the skill in the direction the character is currently facing. Especially useful for escape skills like Teleport or Transplant, but could also see use with AOEs like Entangling Roots or Soul Feast, where your trying to hit 2 enemies on either edge of the cone, rather than casting directly centered at 1 and missing the other entirely
Use Without Moving
Using melee skills like Rive or Judgement will attempt to move next to the targetted enemy before attacking. This can be frustrating when many smaller enemies are surrounding a larger one (such as Emperor of Corpses) - one of the enemies behind the Big Bad happens to be targeted, so instead of attacking the character will attempt to run behind, taking more hits and halting DPS.
It would be nice if I could configure skills to always attack when used, regardless of distance. At this time I’m playing with the new Hand of Judgement unique, so the above suggestion of disabled targeting would also solve this issue. There may be other skills I haven’t played around with yet where the distinction between disabled targeting and use-with-moving becomes relevant
Channeling
Channeled skills cannot be aimed with the controller (besides warpath). After beginning to cast Disintegrate, the direction is locked in. Aim-assist will sometimes correct a little bit if enemies wander close, but there’s no way to spin around 180 without releasing and re-targeting. For skills that just care about direction (Disintegrate, Fireball with Flamethrower node), using the left stick seems like a fine choice, since the characters movement is halted during channeling. I’m not sure about other skills Drain Soul where both direction and distance are relevant
