New player here. I’m on my first walkthrough as a battle mage and I’m having good fun so far.
I’m currently doing my first playthrough of the monoliths, and I’m confused about what determines which path opens up after completing a given monolith. My “plan”, if you can call it that, was to do “Fall of the Outcasts”, then move over to “The Black Sun” and make my way over to “Reign of Dragons” to target farm “Shard of the Shattered Lance”. My understanding was, that after completing the quest echoes of any given monolith, I’d be able to pick between two paths leading to a new timeline. However, I can’t remember being given a choice so far. Paths kinda opened up automatically, and I’m not sure what I’m missing here. I tried doing “Fall of the Outcasts” a second time, so I can get to “The Black Sun”, however it still didn’t open.
So yeah, I’m now going in a zig zag towards timelines I didn’t initially want to target, and I’m not sure how I can correct my path. Is it pre determined? Do I have to just keep going and eventually I’ll end up in the place I want? I’d really like to know how it actually functions.
I’ll gladly take any input on this, thanks in advance. Have a nice weekend everyone.
The point where you make the choice of which timeline to open up (if there is a choice) depends on the timeline you’re in. If you take Ending the Storm as an example, you make the choice of which timeline to open up in the second quest echo. You either fight Liath (opens up the Reign of Dragons mono after you kill Lagon) or you don’t fight her (opens up the Fall of the Empire mono after you kill Lagon). The point when you make the choice specifies which timeline you open up & they all require a selection (clicking Ok usually, & it’ll give you the name & level of the timeline you open up). It does require some reading & just blindly clicking may end up with not getting the timeline you want.
You can re-run the timeline to open the other one if you didn’t select the one you wanted.
I can’t remember a dialog popping up during “Ending of the Storm” that let me choose the next timeline, so it must have been within the NPC dialog options? I do admit I spam click those away blindly. So bottom line: read NPC dialogues in quest echoes at least
How would this work for Fall of the Outcasts → getting to the Black Sun? I did that twice and can’t remember being presented with a choice there either. Guess I’ll do it a 3rd time and look out for NPC dialogue aswell?
Once you’ve killed Abomination and talk to the ethereal being you’re presented with a choice, two options that are associated with the two timelines you can unlock.
Yeah, you should definitely read what you’re clicking on, the important choices are specifically marked in the UI, saves you from a lot of trouble in the long run.
