I just did The Overgrown Graveyard woven echo. The reference is cute, but I was just thinking that this was kind of a missed opportunity.
I was having a conversation in another thread a while ago about how different content can be in an ARPG before it isn’t fun for it to be required. It occurs to me that Woven Echoes actually provide a great opportunity to experiment with more varied content since they’re about as optional as you can make content in a game like this, at least depending on the rewards. Players get to choose if and when they place these to run and outside of a single completion for the weaver skill point, most of them will not offer rewards that are particularly required or irreplaceable. So it feels like it’d be more ok to make some of them content that might push the edge of people’s expectations since people can always ignore it and even trade it away in the exchange woven echo if they really don’t like it.
Going back to The Overgrown Graveyard, it was all things considered fairly standard outside of the flavoring. It was basically just a slightly suped up arena echo. I think it would have been kind of cool if it did something to lean more into the reference. Some kind of tower defense thing or something. You have those undead NPCs with you, but they’re kind of just there in the same way that random campaign/story echo NPCs are kind of just there. Maybe there could be some kind of mechanic where you need to defend them or some objective or maybe you could choose how to deploy them in some limited way? It can’t get too complicated for a single echo, but something to spice things up could have been cool.
idk it’s not a big deal. At the end of the day at worst it’s just another echo. I just think there are potential opportunities to do something more.
