First off, love the game, I (like many) have come form path of exile, where the direction of the game and censorship of feedback is not something I can support.
Anyway, I digress, the above was just meant to advise that I am very new to this game, but not the genre.
I love summoner builds in RPGs, and that’s what my first LE character is, a necro summoner. One thing I’ve noted that is quite apparent, is the minions feel like they are very non-aggressive, particularly the melee minions. Apologies if there’s a way to make them more aggressive later in the game, with gear or skill points, but if this isn’t the case, I think it would be great if changes could be made so that minions engaged enemies at greater distances, instead of sticking next to you all the time.
Minions’ AI will be changed later (very likely this year, before release or maybe at release), but right now yes, melee minions are not aggressive enough. There is one exception: Primalist’s wolves, that use a different AI, much more efficient.
Melee skeletons and skeleton mages are a bit wonky when it comes to their targeting and sticking to targets. But, the ranged units (skeleton archers and mages) do a good job of acquiring targets quickly (not quite as good as POE’s skeleton mages, but less of a gap).
You might want to check out Zecker’s fire minion build or boardman21’s ice minion build on the forums.
Also, make sure you have bound and are using the minion attack command key binding.
I’ve actually noticed the death knight upgrade for skeleton mages (turns mages to melee) is much better AI. They engage with enemies at far, far greater distances than skeleton warriors do. Maybe just make skeleton warriors behave the same way as the death knights?
