MG - My experience and suggestions for improvement

After the refresh I decided to play MG for the first time. Although a lot of things feel smooth (and actually much easier than CoF), there are a few things could be improved drastically. I will not focus on minor things, but points which I believe would improve QoL a lot…

  1. I do not understand why there are so many reputation-based restrictions of buying stuff. All items have already level restrictions, so you can only wear them if you have a certain level. I also get that you can first buy rares, then uniques, then exalteds, then legendaries. But all these additional steps to buy… weapons, armor, boots… it just feels like you wanted to make a similar way of improvement compared to CoF. This feels weird though… just make a few steps (rare, unique, exalted, legendary) and thats it. Oh, and dont let us grind too long to get the required reputation.

  2. I find the number of vendors annoying… especially for price checking… you have a wand, a mace and a spectre for sale. And you have to visit 3 vendors to chech prices… just have ONE vendor where you can pick your category from a dropdown list. Or at least group them in “Weapons”, “Wearables”, “Accessoirs”, and “Idols”.

  3. The filter function is quite ok. But a free text search would be great. I.e. searching the name of a unique. Further, it would be great to see a filter function for unique implicits.

  4. Items appear with ridiculously high prices such as 1.500.000.000 gold. This is clearly kind of troll and just litters the lists. It would be great to have a kind of penalty for high rocketing prices, if they stay too long on that list. I.e. you could have to pay 0.1% of the asked gold per listed day. Typical items up to a few million gold would just cost a few thousand gold per day, easy to handle. But in the case above it would cost 1.5 million gold per day… easy way to “get rid of spam prices”.

  5. Same thing happens with the zero gold items. There shouldnt be any items on the market below the standard vendor price. There are quite some LP3 Items with zero gold cost. Might be nice for alts, but hey… a bit of work should be done to get some of those items.

There are actually several ways to tackle point 4 and point 5. My favorite would be to have automatically dropping prices. I.e. you list an item for 1.000.000 gold. Every 3 days it loses 10% of its original asking price. This would mean that the item is listed for 900.000 after 3 days, 800000 after 6 days and so on. after 30 days the item ends up at 0 gold and is removed from the game automatically, sending standard vendor price to the owner of the item. To avoid “abuse” of de-listing and re-listing it would be great if the item can be relisted only once or twice… this would keep the market clean and relevant throughout the cycle.

What are your thoughts about that? Comments?

Why would that be a troll?
The way I understand it, prices stay there only because it is a hard cap, without it they would go higher.
Every time a monster dies, any monster, some gold is added to the global market. While nothing removes it. Eventually all items will be at that price, because people will have so much gold it will have lost all value. Might take years, but it is unavoidable in the current system.
(Obviously, that’s for legacy. Cycles have a kind of self-regulation due to limited time.)

Lets not talk about Legacy, which is specific anyways …

Consider 400k Gold / h for farming, then it would take 3750 hours to farm that gold. Or 469 days with an 8 hour shift.

And we are not talking about LP4 Red Ring, but about common LP0 Items … Just go to the bazaar and sort by gold decending…

Except you’re not considering the gold you make from selling stuff. Which is a lot more than the gold you farm, if you know what you’re doing, to the point where farming gold is actually pretty useless.

A 4LP red ring is an impossibility. You’ll never see one until you get more tools for it. A 0LP red ring might sell for that much, though.

Either way, and getting on the topic, the most likely explanation isn’t that it’s a troll, but rather someone that is just spending favour to gain reputation. There is no real difference between selling something for 0 or for 1.5B. Both clutter the same.

But this is the point. There is no punishment for cluttering the market. This makes finding something for all others more difficult. Three measures to avoid this:

  1. You gain Reputation by farming and by selling stuff, not by listing. This will lead to much less listing of useless items.
  2. If you list your stuff it loses value until it has the value zero and is removed automatically. This will get rid of all zero Gold items.
  3. The price for listing depends on the asking price (either you have to pay a %rate of gold for listing or the Favor price depends on listing price. This gets rid of all “fun listings”, that clatter the market.

It will also lead to people constantly undercutting each other and will frustrate a lot of player that can’t then progress because they can’t sell.
It will lead to even more items at 0 gold, since everyone will be trying to sell.

So, it makes more sense to only have farming in that case. Especially because of your second suggestion.

Personally, I don’t think we need to get rid of the market clutter. We just need better search tools. PoE has way more clutter than LE ever does and no one has an issue with it because the search tools let you refine any search you want in any way you want.
