Right now, I am in Circle of Fortune and I am enjoying it, and I am rank 8 with them. I want to know what the difference is with CoF and MG.. I’ve been playing solo since I started this game since I have no friends =(
MG is for trading items in the place called “bazaar”. It is next to the observatory of CoF. Players can sell gear by listing them via trade UI. You can buy gear that you want, provided you have enough gold, favor and high enough faction rank for the item type. You don’t need to know the people you’re buying from or selling to.
In CoF, you increase certain drop rates of items / types of your choosing. You do more directed farm. Instead in MG you farm gold and generally desirable items to sell to other players and make more gold. With enough gold you’ll be able to afford better, generally more expensive items for yourself.
Of course, the items you need must be available in the “bazaar” in the first place. If they are not, you have to aquire them with the regular droprates from killing monsters.
You can not be in or equip items from both factions at the same time.
I play merchant guild almost exclusively. I have dabbled in COF.
Shathor gave a perfect description of how Merch Guild works.
IMO the main advantage of Merch guild is that it is easy to start an entirely new build. Low level items are cheap and you can get into a starter set of any build you can imagine right away with very little money.
On the other hand high level items in popular builds are very expensive. For instance COF IMO can farm a 1lp red ring far easier than you can make enough money to afford one in merch guild.
The other disadvantage of merch guild is that you have to keep on top of market prices so you can ask the right amount for the gear you are selling and so that you can set your filter to show high value merchant gears.
But if you are playing an off meta build where the items you need are not in high demand, Merch guild can be a god send. Some very good and rare items that apply only to unpopular builds can go for dirt cheap in the Merch guild. If you want to play off meta builds Merch guild can be the best way to go.
