Mercenaries In Last Epoch

Which would more heavily penalise the Primalist compared to the other classes (unless they got an additional +1 companion by default) as they already have companions as part of their class.

No more than it would penalize another class that has to drop a skill to take the companion?

Yeah, I think I skipped over that part of your post…

That’s okay, I apparently can’t spell worth a damn.

 Don’t worry, neither can Boardman. But I don’t want to give him a complex about it so don’t tell him ok?

Fantastic idea. Don’t let that contrarian sway you.

I am not a contrarian! :stuck_out_tongue:

I love this idea. I loved the D2 mercenary system and it made the game a lot more fun. I recall the Act 2 aura merc from Nightmare to be especially awesome. It adds layers of help/buffs but was never OP, just dont know how hard it would be fore EHG to add to the game (although the way they push out content I would imagine it wouldn’t take them long!)

I mean we’ve already got summons and companions (pets) so i dont think it would be that much of a stretch. Good stuff, Boardman21!

Really disliking the general idea. I do agree that more creative/interactive ways to customize a build are welcome, but this system would not be fun to me.

I do not want to have a permanent ally in any way, that is just generalised(available to every char). If it fits the theme of a certain calss/playstyle, like compainions for primalist for example and probably Falconer for Rogue(i assume it will have a Falcon Pet), it’s ok.

It kills the immersion for me, because when i am playing a roleplaying game of any kind a want to play this one single char i created and formed. This system would come very close(not quite, but close) to a party/squad type of gameplay, which feels forced to me.

I generally never liked games where you control/play multiple chars(except some cRPG, which had relationships etc.). And even though with your describes system you probably woudln’t directly control them, they would be a permanent thing in your gameplay.

If people really want a system like this, at least give players a benefit to NOT use them, some power or anythign that compensate, if you don’t wanna use it.

Marvel Heroes had a very similar system called “Team-Up’s”, which basically were side kicks that you can gear and had a very simplistic skills tree with various rows where you had multiple chocie talents/skills. Each Team-Up also had several “passive” bonuses if you choose to use them but nto activly summon them.
There were basically 3 “modes”: permanent(weakest), 30 sec summon, which was alot stronger and then had a few minutes cooldown and the before mentioned passive mode.

I could settle on something similar to this, but please do not force me to have such a permanent ally. (And please don’t come with the argument i don’t have to summon one if i don’t want to, because if they are no benefits to not summon one i would miss out power comapared to other players)

TL:DR: Don’t like the idea, IF added give benefit to NOT use them

I am just curious did you find yourself forced to use them in d2?

A simple balance of you lose 10% damage if mercenary is active or per mercenary(if say a unique let you summon more than 1) would be easy to implement, obviously numbers subject to change

I dont like the idea of mercenary. @Heavy response echo my own sentiments.

You know… once multiplayer ships, you’ll be able to play with real people and won’t need imaginary fwends. :stuck_out_tongue:

Could always roll a Forge gaurd and make friends with the Manifest Armor and weapon.

D3 has it. POE has it (golems). Stances are coming but of course they take up a slot. Torchlight 2 had the pet that sold your loots for you.

I’ll vote for it.

no no no
I want a healer/buffer to follow me not just run out into the fight
I want to be healed when my health drops
Buffed when my buffs dissapear
And most of all after i kill a rare i want them to whisper in my ear
“Your only a mortal”!

And when i get 10 kills with 1 skill use they say
“Good lord sire, was that really neccessary”

LOL

NO DARN PETS!

People who want pets should stick with pet classes. I hate nothing more then some stupid AI good for nothing but always cause trouble companions in a game! From my point of view this would be the worst case scenario and effectively a reason to ask for a refund and to never ever touch the game anymore EVER! In the last 22 years I played games there was one game I was able to bare companions and it was Van Helsing because you were able to simply make the pet pasive and invisible. Same goes for Torchlight 2… only installed a mod to get a Invisible pet that does nothing so I don’t have to deal with it.

I’m all against it and to be honest I don’t even want to discuss this topic and simply throw in my view on the topic and my hopes for a petfree game untill you play a pet class.

You don’t have to buy a mercenary. It would only be for solo play and it wouldn’t be allowed in the arena.

You need to stop this crazy talk and get back to work… You haven’t released a build guide in hours.

I’m still at reality work. Making lumber.
