As I understand it, if you attempt to use a melee skill on a target that’s out of range your character should then move into range & use the skill. However there are two cases where this will not work:
- If the target then moves out of range again & you’re still holding down the button for the skill your character will remain in place & swinging on air. The most obvious culprits for this are the Ospryx champions where they will fly & retreat a bit mid-combat.
- If you kill a mob and, without letting go of the skill button, move your mouse over another target, you again keep swinging on air.
Edit: And #3 is if you use a skill with a cooldown (that’s on cooldown) while also pressing your melee attack. For example, I have Smite with the Descend node (teleport to target & it gets a 5s cooldown). Normally, when I press Smite it teleports to the target even if I’m whaling away with Rive (which is fine & what I would like to happen). However, if Smite is on cooldown & I attempt to cast Smite again then immediately use Rive (presumably during the animation time of Smite) on a target not in melee range then I don’t teleport (which is correct as Smite is on cooldown), but I also don’t move to the target which I’m still out of range of (which is what should happen due to Rive being out of range).
