I play exclusively CoF and thus I need to spend a ton of currency on creating stash tabs to be able to have items for alts and crafting when I need them. However, I recently wanted to respec from Void Knight to Paladin at level 99. The cost is over 1,000,000 gold. This is, for CoF, and absolutely bonkers respec cost. I know for Merchant’s Guild, that’s really not much as you focus your gameplay around gold farming either via the market or via raw gold farming.
But for CoF, this is a massive amount of gold as CoF’s gameplay actively discourages farming for gold as it’s the least valuable resource except when you’re making stash tabs.
Empowered monolith echoes should be rewarding at least $20k gold from the chest, once you’ve raised corruption a bit … Last season I was averaging $20k-$50k gold per echo … That’s 20-40 echoes to make $1m gold… So we’re talking, a couple hours of gameplay to farm your mastery respec cost? I specify ‘last season’ because I haven’t got that far yet in the new season. I was pulling $200k - $500k per play session last season, just doing echoes.
There are other good reasons to farm gold as COF; stash tabs, Lightless Arbor gold sink, passive respecs, mastery respecs, etc.
And by the way, in the Weaver tree (web), we have more ways than ever to maximize gold drops … So consider tailoring your weaver tree for gold farming.
I completely agree. When I created my first character, I found the cost to be unbalanced. I tried to match the last value I had seen for the NPC, but as I leveled up through farming, the cost kept increasing in a way that felt disproportionate. I think introducing cost milestones based on certain level thresholds would be a better approach — and ideally, the overall value could be reduced a bit as well.
The respec cost is nothing for most players in MG whether it’s 1M, 5M, or 100k… but the gold cost is feels high for CoF players.
This could be fixed by giving CoF difficulty scaling “gold prophecies” that would allow us to earn some chunky gold a little faster if this was our goal.
It could be fixed by giving all players one “free” respec at level 90, so they at least have that in a balanced way.
In the meantime, its possible to use the woven echo system, the woven node that “grants all rewards from surrounding nodes” and the node that “Resets the state of nodes on the web” to do a pretty efficient gold powerfarm. And when you have a timeline setup for this, you can do it as much as you need, because you can just spawn more woven reset nodes into the timeline.
The thing is that gold is of zero value to CoF except for stash tables or trying to crash the game with the chests in Lightless Arbor. So an optimized Weaver’s setup would be blocking gold in favor of promoting other more valuable rewards such as experience tomes (CoF favor) and memory amber. In normal gameplay at 800+ corruption, you’re dropping good items to stash at about the same rate as you’re able to buy stash tabs. Up until around 70 stash tabs, that’s what you get naturally with blocking gold drops. After that, you need to temporarily unblock gold until you hit the limit of the number of stash tabs.
So overall, you’re extremely gold starved when playing CoF especially if you’re farming for more than one build (I’m currently collecting items for 4 different builds). Meanwhile, MG can go sell 2-3 good uniques with LP and have 1+ million gold in close to no time.
The cost just doesn’t feel good to me in CoF and I’m not going to waste 2 hours of my life farming something of zero utility to me when I’d rather be farming for items to play builds which trigger my dopamine receptors which lead me to want to buy more microtransactions.
