I’ve been playing for almost a month now and one detail that frustrates me is the map resets everytime you leave it. This includes death.
Now I would rather that map didn’t reset, but if you think this is part of the game then I would suggest adding a merchant to every map.
The problem I have with the map resetting is the loot fills up my inventory. I don’t mind selling it, I’m a low-level player and I could use the money. But it’s irritating that I end up with a full inventory by the time I get to where I died or left to empty my inventory.
Like I said, if you don’t want to change this for…whatever reason…could you add merchants to the area so I can sell my loot and clean out my inventory without going thru a map reset?
In the campaign I generally go into a new map and if I need to vendor or drop stuff off in town I portal right away. It is a bit annoying, and not consistent with any other ARPG I’ve played.
If your loot is filling up that fast you’re probably picking up too much stuff though. Are you using a loot filter? I’m pretty selective and I can get through a few maps without needing to shatter/sell. The game isn’t really designed to be vendoring a lot of loot. You will get plenty of gold when you start doing monoliths and getting drops that are worth keeping, shattering, or selling.
You should not sell items to NPC vendor; it is a waste of time by design. Devs don’t want you to be incentivise to do that, since it’s just… not fun to do. You will gain way more gold by just progressing through levels and harder content. The items that you sell are probably 10-15 gold pieces each… but monsters drops probably already bigger gold piles than that.
Also, you should not have the needs to farm gold. What are you using that gold on ? The regular gambler ? Items are often quite bad, with low Forging potential, and are not a mean to gear you head to toe. It’s more like an emergency solution if you have one very very bad piece of gear.
Edit : I highly suggest that you build a good Loot Filter, if that’s not the case already, AND that you forge on your gear. You will have waaaay better gear than “farming gold”. With the low price of items, that must be a really miserable experience.
This approach that LE has requires an adjustment for players coming from one of the Diablos or even Path of Exile. Gear mostly sells for very little, and you find enough raw gold on the ground to finance leveling activities.
Going back to town to vendor gear is a hard habit to break, it’s been ground into our mindset by past games where that was the way you built up your gold. It’s refreshing once you get used to it that you don’t have to do this but you get enough gold just by picking up the gold stacks that drop on your way through the game.
Although I appreciate everyone’s response, it is quite unnecessary and doesn’t solve or address the basic problem of map reset.
Map resetting when you leave, even through a portal, is stupid and unnecessary. BUT if that is how the game is designed and can’t be undone without a lot of fuss then I propose putting merchants on the map to solve the issue of overflowing inventory.
As other have mentioned, you don’t really want to go back and sell stuff because you make less gold this way over time.
However, to address the original issue, zone instances are the way they are now because of performance issues. The devs would like to change this (and eventually will) but currently this is a limitation due to technical issues, not a game philosophy decision.
It will eventually change, when they can get around that.
As one of the rare few that actually explores the entire map in every zone, I agree the reset is annoying.
The map reset is due to multiplayer or some other technical issue that they weren’t able to resolve before 1.0. I can’t find the exact clip from Mike but he mentioned it pre-1.0 during one of the dev streams.
I’m pretty positive it’s on their list to fix and I’ll keep looking for that clip/post from EHG on the topic for context!
