How would you guys scale the damage of this skill to use it as a main skill while having allocated Mana Spark and Celestial precision into it’s tree? Specifically just this skill and not via a trigger of another skill
Presumably you’re going melee not spell? Do you want to use it as a DPS skill or a mana generator?
'Cause there’s really not many damage nodes.
That’s about all the damage nodes there are if you want to do melee. With more points you could put them in Teleporting Strikes & the AoE node.
Yep, I’d like to go melee route with it and use it as a dps skill, but I can’t seem to spot any ways to scale it’s damage with those two nodes in mind
You’ll want to stack as much mana as you can to get as much flat lightning damage & base crit from the 2 nodes.
Are there any other items or interactions with having max mana and/or a large pool of it as of now? What about large amounts of ward?
If you’re getting flat damage & crit chance from mana, you’ll want to get attack speed from gear/passives, then crit multi & % increased lightning/elemental/melee damage as well as shock chance (resist debuff), lightning resist shred (stacks with shock chance) & possibly armour shred (though don’t go nuts for that).
Culnivar’s Claim converts mana to ward when you hit full mana but it doesn’t have a great attack rate. Humming Bee might not be a bad idea since you’re getting flat damage from mana so it being a low level base isn’t (as much of) an issue & it is stupidly fast (which you want) plus it gives ward on hit, haste & % increased damage per 200 ward.
Eye of Reen might be nice, it’s fast, gives crit multi & while it’s focussed around fire, the crit multi per Reen’s Ire stack would be good with a high crit chance.
Fragment of the Enigma gives you + 1 Lightning skill level, Spark Charges on hit & more damage for Spark Charges from melee hits.
Prism Wraps is always good for elemental builds.
Attack Speed with Mana Storm and Rune Sap and then using other onhit triggers is the best way for damage from my experience
I see, though my first thought on that was that I wouldn’t even try to scale mana strike’s damage itself and just use it as a vehicle for triggering spells and scale those instead. Since mana strike doesn’t have the spell tag as far as I’m aware, it feels like I would be dividing stats on it which doesn’t sound particularly effective. But that’s not really what I’d want from a class fantasy perspective either.
On the triggers note, are there any other external possible triggers from items that you guys know of or such that would not rely on having spell damage that would work with this?
Dragorath’s Claw and Battlemage’s Endeavour are the most obvious candidates.
Just go full attack speed and the rest into spell supporting affixes, depending on the damage type.
Also any kidn of on crit trigger is great with mana strike, because you can give it 40% base crit chance for no crit multi, but if you use it as a vehicle and on#t do actualy damage with it, its very good.
For example I lvoe to play it with combination one of my favorit unique Sacrificial Embrace
I guess I’m going a bit off topic now but, if a spell is originally lightning and it gets converted to cold through a node, does it still benefit from it’s original lightning tag from say… Lightning spell damage from items?
No converted skills lose their initial damage type tag and only get the new one.
As I am not sure how you mean your last question:
+X Lightning Spell Damage would still apply to any spell.
While X% inc. lightning damage would no longer benfit that now converted lightning skill.
Got it, thanks!
Well, it would benefit any flat lightning damage that gets added to the spell (given he asked about that immediately before).
While I love Mana Storm, he did explicitly ask about melee rather than spell options in the initial post, and Celestial Precision so his flat crit chance should be pretty high already.
