Due to the shard info the mana % increase shard can be applied to helmets and chest. However, it is not possible to apply it to a mage helm. It works, however, for a sentinel helm (have not checked others yet).
To verify: Get a common mage helm and check what prefix shards are available. You can get + mana but not mana %.
I’m pretty sure I brought this up with the team before, if not, I’ll make sure to make a note of it. It’s definitely confusing and I personally ran into the same issue.
I’ve checked the DB and, as far as I can tell, this is the only shard with a class restriction. The question is why. Would it result in unbalanced builds for Primalists and Mages if this restriction is removed?
There are many affixes with shard class restrictions, such as +1 Sentinel skills affixes when you are playing a primalist.
I do agree though, this one is little weird. Most likely it’s designed like this because of balancing since mage has access to a lot of mana including implicits.
Thanks again for the feedback. Of course all the skill level shards are class restricted but besides those there are no others except the mana % increase. And yes, the mage class has access to “other” mana increase sources as do all other classes except, maybe, the rogue. However, I’ve recently reskilled my shaman and really wished I could use mana % increase.
I do hope the Developer Team reconsider this restriction.
We do tend to gate mana and mana regen though out the game for balancing dps. Shaman also has access to stacking attunement that scales all their abilities, so access to flat mana is easier than others classes.
That being said, if you feel the mana cost/values and your access to mana is poor in Shaman, I would bring it up in feedback and suggestion section on forums. If you provide examples of what you feel is weak, we will read it over and if we agree, make some changes to address the problems.
