Mana efficiency

Not sure if this is a bug or intended. But this is an observation with mana efficiency I have noticed on several skills.

Now I am lead to believe at 100% it effectively halves’ the mana cost. So 100% efficiency on a skill cost of 40 mana would equal a new mana cost of 20! If that reduction is over 5 points in the node, eg 20% you would expect a mana reduction of 4 points. So as efficiency goes up 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and finally 100%. The cost should go down in 4 mana steps, (40 base cost) > 36 > 32 > 28 > 24 > 20.

However I am seeing some really weird numbers which don’t make sense.

Lets take Abyssal Echo as an example.

It has a base cost of 35 mana. Half of that is 17.5 round up is 18. However as I put points into the node Abyssal Remains up to maximum. The mana drops per level are as follows.

20% = 30 a reduction of 5
40% = 25 a reduction of 5
60% = 22 a reduction of 3
80% = 20 a reduction of 2
100% = 18 a reduction of 2

Why the weird steps? Surely they should go down in steps of 3.5 mana ( rounded up, and adjusted to meet half way point.

So the reduction should be 4 > 7 > 11 > 14 > 18, so mana cost would be (35 base cost) > 31 > 28 > 24 > 21 > 18. That way the reduction is nice and smooth!

Is this working right?

No, given that the mana costs are rounded up, it works correctly:

There’s also diminishing returns backed into the formula, so you get more of an impact of the first 20% than the last (so you’ll never be able to get zero mana cost skills from mana efficiency).

Diminishing returns, well that explains it! They need to add “Diminishing returns” onto the tooltips. As it looks like its bugged!

Or at least add it to the guide!

We probably should add a Game Guide entry, thanks for the suggestion. The formula for how mana efficiency is in the character sheet, in the mean time.
