Desperate Meditation in Mage’s Focus skill currently does increased mana regen per missing mana. The problem with this node is that it only applies to how much missing mana you have at the start of the Focus cast and it leads to unintuitive play that counters the use of builds that do ‘damage to mana before health’.
If you lose mana while you’re channelling Focus it has no impact on your mana regen. For example (and this is an inaccurate example), if I use Focus at 80% of mana capacity I would have 20 mana regen, and if I lose all my mana pool I still only have a 20 mana regen if I’m still channelling the same Focus. Now. If I use Focus when my mana pool is empty I would have a 60+ mana regen. So then, what’s the point of continuing the same Focus channel and not just stop it and restart the channel so I can take advantage of the higher mana regen? It breaks combat flow.
I propose a solution: Make mana regeneration on this node dynamic while channelling Focus. It would adjust your mana regeneration as your mana pool depletes and would enable builds that ‘take damage to mana before health’. It basically allows higher regeneration rates as your mana depletes, dynamically, while channelling focus. You would end up with fast regeneration rates when near empty and much slower rates near full. This way you’re not forced to stop using your current channel of Focus at low mana pools just so you can get a higher mana regeneration.
