I recently made a build with the intent to use Static. However now that I have gotten to monos I am starting to wonder why it is feeling weak. I have taken the Power Surge passive and increases its maximum charges. I am spending 165 mana on this thing. Between the Power Surge giving it a huge base damage (whatever its default is +150 for charges) plus the multiplier per charge plus the sorc passive for mana cost this thing should be blasting for mad big hits.
So I decided to do a comparison. My Glacier sorc hits with the big explosion non-crit for more than crit fully charged static. For 1/5 the mana cost and is spammable, no building required beyond the mana. I did this test naked on both characters.
My first suspicion is the added damage multiplier that Glacier gets. Quad for the big explosion. Perhaps static deserves a little something there? Considering we have to build up charges for it a higher multiplier might fix this discrepancy.
Does the Alt info on the tooltip give an added damage effectiveness for Discharge? If not the default is 100%. Youād think that with +150 added damage the Discharge would kick the **** out of anything it hits, given thatās quite a bit more than the highest damage staff you can get.
Iād also be curios as to whether Power Surge buffs the damage from Zap or not.
Unless itās bugged & itās adding any damage. Is the damage increased with Power Surge at all?
+150 added damage doesnāt do much when you consider that you have spells like Meteor that have 100 base damage and 500% added damage effectiveness.
If you have a max charged 200-stack static with the flat damage node and a highest rolled oracle staff, itās just coming out to +300 base damage. meanwhile, an Oracle staff for Meteor adds 500 base damage. Then when you consider that static requires a huge buildup to ānukeā, costs 200+ mana to do so, while Meteor does it with no CD and a 60 mana cost, there is really no comparison.
With this in mind, a nice change would be to make Static gain damage effectiveness relative to its charges expended. Either 1% effectiveness per 1 charge or 2% per one charge. I would personally go with 2%, as I donāt think a max effectiveness of 500% is really that problematic when factoring in how long building up 200 stacks takes.
Yeah, thatās a fair point. They could probably also do with reducing the cost per charge as well, maybe make it a % increase per charge instead, since the base cost is 15, 200% increased would make it cost 45 mana.
