Lost connection after really short inactivity period

Hi,

I’m constatly getting the lost conection error. I’m not sure about what it’s generating the error but it seems that it’s happen when I’m not moving (in stash, shop or checking loot) or when I use alt tab to see guides or whatever.

(Log obtained just after the “lost connection” error while checking the loot from the end of the monolith quest)
Player.log (2.7 MB)

Thanks!

It seems there is an incredibly aggressive “inactivity timer” for some players, including me. Whenever I stand still, out of town, not casting skills for 25 seconds (yes I tested it) I get disconnected every time. So I can’t take my time to read my skill tree out of town for example. It seems there is an inactivity timer that should be in minutes but instead it is in seconds for some people ??? Idk, this is really weird.

Things that I’ve tried (and had some success):

  • Keep casting at least 1 skill every few seconds - This guarantees I never get disconnected. However if I spend a bit of time (lets say 30 seconds) looking at the monolith map for example I will get disconnected, since I can’t cast any skills during that time.
  • Use a VPN - not every VPN works, most of them make the loading screen infinite. The free ProtonVPN fix it for me, however the free tiers are far from my location and forces me to play with 200ms+. Sometimes the VPN itself goes down briefly, causing me to get disconnected, so it’s not an optimal solution.
  • Use 4G data from my mobile, but I don’t have unlimited bandwidth

Things that I’ve tried (and had no success):

  • Update drivers
  • Change DNS to Google
  • TCP Optimizer
  • Disable firewall and antivirus
  • Ultimate Windows Tweaker
  • Playing on different servers

Ive noticed the same thing. Doing monoliths is no for the most part no problem at all. Random “lost connection to game server” here and there. But when i stand still checking out my gear, checking my skills/passive tree or selling/stashing gear, i almost always get “lost connection to game servers” quite fast. Granted the only thing ive tried is to clear DNS but that didnt help at all.

I just found a solution and I will share it here, maybe it helps someone else.

  1. Change your ipv4 dns to cloudflare (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1).
  2. Download Cloudflare Warp and install it
  3. On Cloudflare Warp go to Preferences > Connection and set DNS Protocol to HTTPS
  4. Click on Cloudflare Warp tray icon and enable it
  5. Launch Steam and try to play Last Epoch

I hope it helps!

Thx mate it works perfectly now :D.

I’m not going to mark it as solution because I believe this should be fixed whithout using a third party tool but it will help everyone with this problem while the devs solve the real issue

Same thing has been happening to me, pretty much since launch. Infuriating, but I don’t want to get a VPN or download a 3rd party program…

Hi guys

I experience same issues, so I tried different tips from this video guide

But nothing changes , even worse

  • I updates my drivers
  • flashed my BIOS

Use ethernet connection ( no wifi)

Going to try cloudfare …

Hope it helps
