Losing Gaze of Orobyss

I think losing all your Gaze of Orobyss if you die fighting the Shade of Orobyss is pointless and a huge waste of time. If the point of the end game is to increase the corruption and the challenge, then why lose the bonus corruption if you die? It’s already pretty slow progressing through the echos repeatedly just to get enough stability to fight the echo boss for a gaze. Losing the bonus corruption doesn’t increase the replayability or challenge if you die to the shade by accident or by loss of connection.

You don’t lose the Gaze stacks when you disconnect or leave.

You can even leave the area on purpose if you find a particular Shade to difficult.

I think it’s totally fine to lose this bonus if you die. The Gaze of Orobyss is only one of 3 layers of Corruption increasing bonuses and if you stack it very high and then losing it through dying, that is on you.
If you don’t want to do cope with that risk just do 1 or 2 stacks maximum, before doing a shade. This way not all your corruption progress would be tied to the Gaze.

Death in LE already has very few significance. I rather would like more systems to use death’s as punishment.

If you get dropped by the server or your connection to server is lost, you will lose the gazes probably because on the server, you’re still fighting and you’ll probably die. This has happened to me, at least. If I port out, then I don’t die and I won’t lose the gazes.

The Gaze bonus loss is a heavy loss for dying to the shade compared to dying in an echo or anywhere else. You don’t lose progress. But dying to the shade, you lose a ton of progress because of the amount of echos you have to finish to collect enough stability to fight the boss to get 1 Gaze.

I don’t think death in the game was meant to be this heavy. It’s an infinite loop game, so death is somewhat meaningless. But, the real time lost for losing gazes is significantly higher than just dying in a normal echo or region. Even dying in a dungeon isn’t bad since you just lose the progress of the one key.

I’ll post here just be one more to say this. Completely agree.

I think part of the problem relies in another issue, we don’t have effective ways to increase corruption for “hardcore” players who want push the highest corruptions possible. The bonus corruption from other timelines is not a solution for alts, who still need to push one timeline to the limit and it’s very slow to someone who already have made the process in another char.
This is polemic and will trigger lot of side discussions, one of them being that players should not be able do so higher corruption and devs see the sweet spot around 300 corruption. While I disagree I’ll leave it at that …

Back to the main subject, yes its very heavy penalty. Sometimes I take almost an hour to achieve a far Gaze to gain only 9 corruption, and with the bonus of boss beating is another 9 corruption, making it 100% increased gain, and for whatever reason if I die it’s a lot of time wasted and the need to repeat monos all over again become even more infuriating.

I think there could be other alternatives, make it so that if you die you are still able to gain 50% of the gaze bonus.
Or give more power to the mono escalating path. Make the flat corruption from echos slightly higher. Let’s say 4-7-10-15-22-29.

The penalty should be placed in a game for challenging purposes and balance purposes, but in this case IMHO it’s heavily sided to the unfair side, and the challenge it proposes mostly make the player bored :yawning_face: or infuriated.

Keep in mind that all this is thought taking in count the current scenario, the real one. There is no logic arguing something that have yet to be implemented, like saying 300 corruption will be the highest possible number and the game is balanced for that number.
The system and the power of builds right now allow me to go to 1.000 corruption, and corruption scalating is not in a good place now, again, IMHO.
