GGG have done it, and honestly Last Epoch was on the way. The most important thing consistent league releases. Even if it is every 6 months. People WILL come back and they will buy supporter packs!
This road they are going down will not be successful in the long term. It is short sighted.
Let’s look at POE fot example. A large subset of supporter packs are bought purely because they think the league is good and the company deserves it. It is common to buy a supporter pack you dont want in POE just because the league is good and we want to suuport the company.
Last Epoch honestly was the ONLY game in the genre that would have been able to pull this off also. Every other ARPG simply doesn’t come close to POE.
The thing is Last Epoch is outside of POE the only other ARPG that truly had people excited.
The problem isn’t spending money on the game, people will spend. The problem is they have now made their player base feel betrayed, the player base losing trust in the company. Being sold to Krafton, adding a paid class, this changes the view of the company in the eyes of the consumer.
Again going back to POE. GGG sold to tencent, GGG made a promise nothing would really change due to this. Everyone was worried, in the end nothing really changed.
With Krafton already months after their acquisition we now have to pay to play a class. This is changing the company this is changing the game in a fundamental way. As well as Krafton currently screwing over the Subnutica devs. The perspective of the company has changed and that is what will kill this game.
Look past the “they need to to make money” look past the actual selling of a class. It is bigger than that, people are not angry because they have to buy a class people are angry because the game they love will be destroyed. Krafton will destroy this game for quick cash and move on to the next.
With the current direction Last Epoch is going it is doomed to fail, where as before it was looking to be like a great winner.
Again not about “buying a class” it is about the changes being made the direction the company is going and the inevitable place this will lead.
