You did not complete the story line.
I guess now you have your Mastery. Close to the Forgotten Knight up the ramp, there is Elder Gaspar. Talk to him again, he will open a rift to your next mission.
You’ve just started chapter 4, there are 8 chapters.
The first Monolith (Fall of the Outcasts) is intended for level 55 characters. If you are incredibly efficient with the story mode, you may finish the campaign around level 50 and FotO is still doable in that range (the boss may give you some trouble if you’re undergeared your first few times through).
On the map screen there are tabs with “Eras” at the top. Each one has a series of waypoints. You will know your overall progress as those waypoints become uncovered. The campaign is fairly linear until you reach the Isla of Lagon.
Basically, you should play through the campaign at least because of the additional idol slots.
After that, you can at least venture into the current endgame fully equipped.
I believe the issue is the Monolith area is accessible as soon as you get to the End of Time area. I did something similar my first time through, jumped into the area that you start monoliths in at like mid 20s or so (25-26?). Seeing the area was meant for lvl 55 I left and went back to questing…but it’s very easy for a new player to wander into monoliths and maybe even try running one in their mid 20s.
I think, at least for an accounts first playthrough of the game, the monolith area should be gated behind the last quest…maybe this is something coming as the story isn’t complete yet, but it’d be a good idea to help guide players through the story better.
Totally agree. When I landed in the End of Time area, my only quest showing was Monoliths, thus I started running them & getting splattered, lol. Certainly confusing to mix end game content in with the progression line
