LE: 2 Fixes Which Will IMPROVE the Merchant's Guild

Hear me out, perhaps controversial, but I have 2 suggestions to improve the Merchant’s Guild in future updates.

try buy general idols.
Is just pain if you want certain values and you have 100 pages to go.

Fix 1 - Yeah, everyone is asking for this. I feel like they are gonna do it soon.

Fix 2 - I completely disagree. This position of completely removing the grind is unfortunately from a position of not knowing the benefits and the progression and bottlenecks of the Merchant’s Guild.

Please let me give you some tips for using the Merchant’s Guild, I hope this can be useful. I took some time and care to write this up.

Tips for Merchant’s Guild

  • Spending ANY favor in ANY way gives you reputation in the ratio of 2 reputation per 1 favor spent.
  • Listing items on the auction house uses your favor and gives you the reputation. It doesn’t matter if the item sells or not, you get the reputation instantly, selling the item only gives you the gold.
  • Buying items on the auction house uses your favor and gives you the reputation at the same ratio as any other method of favor spending.
  • Favor is a precious resource that essentially equates to time spent in the game. If you waste your favor, you essentially waste the progression of your character.
  • Favor MUST be spent only on buying things that help your character, buying things that help an alt or selling things for gold in my opinion.
  • Do NOT spend favor on the gambler. The items are awful and you are essentially wasting the favor that can be used on buying Exalted bases, Full exalted gear, exalted weapons and LP uniques later on.
  • Favor will bottleneck you even if you hit rank 8. Even if you got your system with 5 ranks, it won’t matter cause you’ll spend a truckload of time gathering the favor just to buy something with the LP on it.
  • Good things to buy when you are rank 1 MG are rare affixes to shatter off blue and yellow gear. It is practically free and costs little favor and starts you off perfectly.
  • Good things to buy at rank 2 MG are certain set pieces that start you off really well. I’m using 3 set pieces and they carry me in 300-500+ corruption content.
  • Good things to buy at rank 3 MG are entry level 0 LP uniques that allow you to start your build off with a bang. Some BiS items such as the Red Rings can be purchased this early on.
  • Good things to buy at rank 4 MG are your idols obviously. The thing here is that you can make MONTHS worth of idol progression in MINUTES. This is the most underrated rank in the whole list.
  • Sales must be intentional and must get you gold. If you list something for 0 gold, you are wasting the favor.
  • Good things to sell are crafted weapons and armor of YELLOW quality. This starts people off in MG 1 and is a godsend for them and for you. You can list these things anywhere from 30-120k gold which is equal to multiple wealth shrine explosions.
  • Good Idols to sell are ones with Health%/Health. Additionally, Health%/Damage and Health%/Resistances are excellent. These can go anywhere from 200k to 2 million+ if they are 4-5% health%.
  • There are many other good idols to sell too, some mage examples are “Cast speed with lightning aegis” and “Stun immunity on teleport”. Acolyte and Rogue idols sell for way more than Mage ones.
  • When price checking ANY gear, arrange the results by “Gold Low to High”. This is important. If you arrange it this way and find your item with pages of listings at 0 gold at your rolls/LP, the item is NOT a valid thing to sell. I take the item out of my inventory, throw it at the vendor’s feet and walk away.
  • T6 Exalted items can make usable early/mid game gear and servicable bases with the right affixes. Ideally 3 affix items are more valuable because they are easier to craft on. These items can easily sell between 20k-80k but they’ll cost a bit more favor to list than idols or yellows.
  • T7 Exalted Items can make the best bases and potential late game gear in the game. 3 affix pieces can be crafted easier than most 4 affix pieces, so they will be more valuable usually. Additionally the range these roll in are important.
  • T7 Intelligence and Dexterity are popular options, I recommend a loot filter for some of these T7 affixes even if your class doesn’t use them. Rerolling the piece to max allows you to list the base for a decent profit as they are BiS for YOLO slamming certain low LP uniques.

I appreciate the tips. I was not implying that rank 5 reputation would cap as it is, but rather that the reputation, as is, to hit tier 8 or so be spread out amongst the 5 ranks I suggested.

It’s good to know my instincts when leveling an alt to sell lowbie gear someone else might shatter is a good one. One thing I would add: certain builds need specific items (shadow dagger kris, for example) that sell well, as do level 16+ daggers. The Kris especially is I think level 25 and exalts might be Shadow Daggers bis.

If you’re waiting in line at the doctor or something, look up the meta and make plans to adjust your loot filter!

That’s probably the most underrated thing about trading…you are essentially farming for countless different builds at the same time.
