Last Epoch’s Season 4 and Beyond: Expansion, Paradox Classes, and Roadmap

I played this game on beta many years ago and I was looking forward, because the game had so much potential.

Played all seasons so far, got one lvl100 each season.

Got one supporter pack each season, because I like the MTX and want to keep supporting the game.

But now, I feel like I’m not really liking where the the game is going. No content or anything for months, probably the balance will be the same (3-4 builds 10000x better than anything in the game), I didn’t like some aspects of target farming added in the past, and now paid classes.

Is this what passes for a roadmap? This is what took almost 2 months to dot the i’s and cross the t’s

What a joke of a post. Damage control is all this is. Nothing of substance really beyond an announcement of “yeah the expansion is free BUUUUT if you want the new class you’ll pay anyway”

It’s a pity, but this is the end.

Thank you for clarifying, I assumed as much. I wasn’t trying to make fun, but rather have fun. I honestly love the game regardless of what is announced especially when everything is so far off and no pun intended, subject to change. Game development is difficult and PR even more so. But you have to admit it is a very redundant roadmap. I think saying there wasn’t going to be one before people raised expectations would have been a better move. But it’s easy for me to say. Either way, I’m looking forward to what comes next, hopefully it is something that is both profitable for you and reasonable for us.

Ah, great — so just buying the game isn’t enough.
And having a shop full of overpriced cosmetics (like in PoE to be fair) isn’t enough either.
I totally accepted that, because even in Path of Exile I had to buy stash tabs to have enough space.

But the moment Krafton buys you, you immediately start pulling this nonsense.

But sure, go on and tell me again how this won’t affect your game at all.

It’s a shame — I genuinely thought you were going to be a fair alternative to PoE 1.
But you can’t be that if this is the direction you’re taking.
And if anyone doesn’t like the comparison, you can still face the reality that these two companies are competing directly with each other.
I was honestly happy about your success, but now I hope you come to regret this decision.

At least you tried. What a pity.

Mark my words, they are going to nerf everything to the point that the only viable option that is going to feel good is going to be… u guess rigth the paid class, repeat the process every new season.
Hope it won´t happend but with this roadmap where the only information u get is: ey paid classes… idk.

There are my 2 cents, if u want implementing new paid classes to keep the game growing perfect but dont touch the rest or u are going to lost most of your player base, i dont think i need to explain why do u need a healthy player base right?

My intelligence feels so violated right now looking at this roadmap I think I could sue them for moral damages and win
Only a negative 5 digit IQ person looks at this and doesn’t see how pathetic it is

But that’s kinda part of the issue I have with it. We already paid for 5 classes yet paying for more is bad. I do get that it creates a system of haves & have nots / FOMO to push people into paying for it, but you could say the same about paying for a new expansion, what would that have? New zones? New quests? New uniques? New bosses?

Which is a fair complaint but not a reason to accept buying MTX over not buying new classes.

Have they said anything about pricing on Reddit? Otherwise you’re just screaming that the sky is falling.

Classy argument bro.

…well, ouch.
I think I’ll keep sitting on the sidelines watching things unfold.

Is this the first time I’ve ever posted in a forum? I’m not going to beat around the bush, but are you guys stupid or what? I mean, it’s great that we don’t have to pay Orobyss, thank you so much. Do you really think players are going to be happy to pay for a class? I think it’s a shame because you really have the potential to make an excellent game, but you’re taking some strange turns, it’s sad.

I mean… B first currently and it likely leads to A?

Because that seems to be the case rather openly now. Just the question of ‘how long can the lethally wounded thing drag itself along?’

Exactly.

Anyone defending this type of thinking is the actual problem on the market.

Why?

Because if you let such stuff simply ‘pass’ then it gets picked up by more companies as it’s a viable method to make more money before having to shut down the product. Leads to us as customers being screwed over.

Umh… thanks.

So your roadmap is: We’ll likely have 2 Cycles and then the Expansion’?
You know… that’s not really anything new… it was mentioned already.

Why did we wait 7 weeks for that utter crap stating nothing?
Specifically since you guys were the ones happily stating ‘we’ll have a roadmap soon!’. I mean… how much do you wanna dig your own grave? Usually people at least get tricked into it through some way… but you guys willingly suggested it and volunteered for it right away! :joy:

It’s a big issue actually. If you can’t even sustain reliable communication you start then how should we as customers trust into any sort of quality?

Because don’t get me wrong, as much as many people like you guys here, and wish to see the product succeed (and I can tell you, I do, despite my harsh words, but when you screw up you screw up)… don’t ever get the relationship there wrong.

You’re the company providing a product. Your task is to provide it in a competitive manner on the market. Which is speed and quality for us customers.
We as customers in return give you money.

And it’s just something to think about. Do you guys actually believe a game which is unfinished. Bugged. Unbalanced and has messy mechanics and a bad scaling currently… is providing the value for us as customers to say ‘Yeah… it’s not the best thing they do… but we’ll buy into the clear anti-consumer product you provide with the new class!’?

First fix the product, then ask for money. I know your new overlords are staring down at you just waiting to provide their ‘AI first’ direction like they’re now doing with Subnautica 2… but this? This is definitely not the way.

This isn’t even damage control. You did too little too late… and you even provided new things to be too late on. Now it’s catchup time. If you can’t get it done properly I guess you guys will either get ‘removed nicely’ with a nice severance package soon enough or you can put in your 60 hours overtime a week to try and turn it around. Because at your speed you either need someone organizing you guys and trimming the fat right away… or you need to work your asses off to keep the lights on. Because no monetization will save you unless the product is worth the monetization in the first place. And a half-finished thing is not.

We paid for a comprehensive full experience. Never got it to date and are now expected to pay more before we even know when the full experience is supposed to be there.
Oh, and another expansion too for everyone new! Lucky us we get it for free, right?

At least any form of direct competition is not affected hence. It splits the community but as stated… doesn’t at least mess with the competition inside the respective bubble.

Umh… it is a very good reason?
‘I was promised one thing and now I’m supposed to do the other’ is not the deal.

How much more of a reason do you need?

Paid gameplay features? Nope! Thank you.

Remember when Actiblizz said “you’ll never pay for gear in Diablo:Immortal” and then said “LOL buy your power gems here” knowing that the whining would never hold up in court.

Yeah, that went down well, didn’t it.

Diablo could do it cos it’s Diablo and it was a f2p game. I am not sure that LE has the numbers and goodwill to pull this move and get away with it.

I am sure they’ll get enough sales from the 1500 still playing the game in 12 months to keep the lights on and limp on for a bit, but a bright future making something to be proud of seems like a rather distant fantasy.

That’s fair, but some people like making their characters look nice so shouldn’t we include MTX in that “we paid for a full experience”?

Please re-run the last Twitch drops before the Season is over.

MTX was always excluded from that. Never in question. We got them to buy as promised.

As stated… was the promised premise ‘we’ll pay for a expansion’ which because of monetary issues at least is understandable… but already problematic enough. A pure failure after all.
But then add ‘and extra classes for payment too!’.

So, where does it end? One thing was broken, what other monetization will we see?
How about boosters? Battle-passes? Daily unlocks you pay to enhance the results of for a while? Lootboxes? Maybe some gacha mechanics? How about gear? Unlocks?

There’s a lot left to monetize, and especially the P2W aspect was very adamant to never happen. So why the actual fuck should even an inkling of that be acceptable? Especially given how the vast majority of games ended? And especially since the ‘AI first’ discussion we had turned out quiiiite bad by now? With ‘voluntary leave’ from the company there already as they allowed everyone to leave of free will?
They literally wanna have the music, the art, the models, the story… everything as much as possible handled by AI, cause cheaper. So that discussion also went badly as well… sadly so.

I don’t have a problem with this after all you have to make money somehow. That being said your playerbase is comprised heavily of basement mouth breathers who have low income so they’re losing their sh-t over this idea. So just scrap it which shows you listen to your playerbase. In it’s place what you do is to restrict inventory to like 2 items and then implement paid tabs a la poe. Everyone buys that sh-t. You have to make money somehow.

In any case i think LE is a great game, its like my 2nd favorite ARPG next to grim dawn. Keep up the good work and don’t listen to the haters.

Changing your monetization is fine, but then this will be the way to support the game, depending on pricing im okay with it being done this way, but i will stop buying supporter packs in the future.
Love the game, and i hope you keep more awesome content coming

1 less arpg to play… easy (even on hc) and p2w now

Ok, IMO:

The roadmap is a joke. Really, worth of a red shirt “Is this an off season April Fool’s joke?” moment. Saying just the number of seasons before the expansion without saying anything about what content will those seasons have is less than even EHG’s last roadmap. And, to be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if the expansion is delayed and we end with more (or less) seasons before it’s released.

“But you were asking for a roadmap, well, here’s one!” - I never asked for this (inset Adam Jensen meme here). And this is such a flawed roadmap that it would have worked better as a side note (foot note?) to the expansion’s annoucement.

About the expansion: honestly, I (again, I) would have preferred a model similar to Diablo 4 or Grim Dawn, in which we buy expansions and those expansions come with a new class. Considering it’s a model used for other ARPGs, there’s at least a precedent. I understand some people are complaining about EHG’s “promise” that all of Last Epoch’s future content would be free, but IMO, that’s an impossible promise.
