So based on the patch notes… if, in the future, there will be a bug in a new cycle start which gives a character immortality and it will be discovered few days after the cycle launch, it won’t be fixed until the next cycle because there are players who’s already enjoying the bug?
This is super wrong….
It’s not even the warlock ward bug alone… this warlock bug is just a perfect example now…
So as long as it is not a negative issue for a certain player who’s already using it, this is how bugs related to build/gameplay will be handled in the future?
It’s not about balance patches… it’s bug fixing … two very different things
not like people being upset that they cant compete can just reroll to the build themselves. its not gated behind paying 50€ for a DLC to unlock being able to play warlock.
I understand you! But since when did Bug exploit became a meta?
Balancing can be bad, that creates a meta… bugs should never create a meta.
And my problem is not specifically this ward exploit now… my problem is, what makes me worry is that if they handle a critical bug this way, than what future we are actually getting with the game?
No, really, did you guys employ someone from Acti-Blizzard suddenly?
I’m a casual player. I work full time, I come back home, I want to mindlessly slash. BUT I also want some dopamine hit from this slashing, and the way you guys let ppl experiment with builds is actually pretty awesome! Aaaaanddd you had to mess it up.
So let’s break it down from a very casual player perspective:
I start playing. I love the concept of Lich with death seal. Temporary boost in dps at the expanse of health and have to keep up pace to keep transformation up. Awesome! Great fun! Until I reached Monoliths. Normal Monoliths. And got my ass kicked by bosses. But you know what - it felt good! Why? Because now I had to engage in that crafting system everyone keeps talking about. And it is great.
But here you gave me few choices:
Follow one of the best builds out there and play the way everyone who wants to “be the best” does. An idea from PoE, and nice you have it for ppl in LE. Not for me. No time to learn, no intention to chase the title. I want to play the way I want at my own pace. “We got you covered” you say with option 2:
Figure out what MY build is missing, what affixes, and farm to get them, either on drop-roll or by shattering and gathering them over time. Oh and if I need some help with exalted drops and unique, there’s CoF. OMG, I can’t express how awesome it felt. I actually could play the way I want and still experiment, with a reasonable farm. Oh w8… I need to shatter items for the affixes. Oh it’s 2k a pop. Oh and if I’m not sure if I should shatter it, I can buy stash tabs and store it. Ok, reasonable. Just get keys and sell. Oh and I need CoF rep for prophecies. Ok I need exp. Fair enough. So I had to decide what I needed at the time more: a base for an item, so take prophecy for item, or a gold to shatter the ones I’ve already found. I cannot stress enough how balanced it felt. A goal to aim at without being pressured to have to make a decision when the item drops: shatter or not to shatter? Kill, pick up, think later.
And then you dropped this patch.
And from reading the comments it boils down to this:
you made it way more difficult and farm intensive for casual players and CoF. I can’t afford Shattering so I have to think either ahead or at the moment of the drop, whether this item will be useful or not. Oh and I can’t afford storing items for other builds I would like to try later.
you didn’t make it any more rewarding for pros by addressing their concerns with some OP builds or bugs or what have you…
you tried to fix problem with MG by nerfing CoF with these keys and exp.
Hm… where have I seen this before?
I thought you designed a great game for both: casuals and pros. Why change something that was working?
Cof is basically ssf mode my dude. If you want as little friction as possible you are supposed to go merchants. If you hate farming for gold or gear then picking cof was a dumb move. Just switch to merchants and youll be fine
That’s the thing - I understand that games require certain amount of farm. And it really felt balanced for a casual.
As for MG, the problem I see (and I may be wrong, but I don’t really want to spend time finding out, so pls correct me if I am) that it doesn’t solve anything:
-now: item drops. It has certain affixes. I don’t know if they’re BiS or what, whether I will really need it in the future or not. I don’t want to alt-tab and google it. I don’t want to memorize the list of affixes I need. I don’t want to create detailed loot filter. I want to be able to say to myself: “hm… I may need it in the future. Either for shattering or as a base. Let me worry abut it later”.
-If I follow your advice and go MG: item drops, I will still have to figure out whether it’s an item worth listing or not? So I still have to google. Even more, now I have to check how much are similar items going for. Regardless of what I’ll need the gold from the sale for.
MG seems a great option for pros who want to min-max. Seems like something went wrong with its economy. So fix MG but don’t touch CoF which seemed ok.
a. The dive bomb nerf was inevitable, as it was causing server issues. I don’t think anyone would disagree.
b. Profane Veil is a tough one. Perhaps an easier decision could have been made if it was done earlier, but as it stands, we either have to:
Keep it as it is
Leaderboards will be flooded with more and more warlocks (now that dive bomb got nerfed)
Players who do not like Profane Veil’s playstyle but want to remain competitive will slowly but surely get burnt out
When it does get fixed in cycle 2, it would feel like the class had a huge nerf, and even though warlocks are likely still going to be one of the top tiers, playing a class that had been “nerfed badly” doesn’t feel good
Nerf it now
Existing warlock players will be left stuck in high corruption with no way out
If you don’t reset the leaderboards, no one is going to manage to catch up with the top entries
If you do reset the leaderboards, warlocks who farmed high corruption will still have an advantage over everyone else due to gear/money and the possibility to transfer those to a different character
New and existing players without a warlock will never be able to catch up to those who had one and farmed high corruption
c. Arena Keys sell nerf is baffling as it goes against the statement of not making balance changes mid-cycle. Going from CoF to MG for early key farming and then buying late game items is a perfectly fine progression path to me. As it stands, we run into some of the same issues as with profane veil:
Those who did not farm and sell keys are currently disadvantaged compared to those who did
New MG players won’t be able to get their initial boost of gold, making it harder for them to penetrate a market already inflated via key selling pre-1.0.2
The only way to catch up with the gold inflation now is to play a profane veil warlock, which would escalate the bugged skill node issue, making decisions there even harder.
Overall, I feel there are no easy decisions to make now. Perhaps the best option would be to ensure all the testing is done, even doing it live if needed, then cutting short cycle 1. Additionally, before cycle 2 is out, make a statement about the balancing practice and stick with it, at least for cycle 2.
Not fixing bugged builds will just make the casual and mildly competitive players who make up the core of your fanbase feel bad if they don’t realize builds they see on YouTube etc saying “1000,000 ward OMG” are just exploits. If I saw that as a new-ish player I’d immediately think, “man I must suck at this game I can only get 10,000 and I’ve grinded like crazy” and turns out it is just a bug you refuse to fix!! Not even mentioning how this can affect the economy 2 months from now with some small subset of players pushing insane corruption levels and flooding the market with insane gear.
I fundamentally disagree with this stance especially considering your stance on cycles has been “no league specific content”. I don['t see how you can claim that but then also claim you need to wait for the next cycle to act on broken features of the game.
You guys have the wrong idea about strong skills and interactions vs bugged skill nodes. When you fix a bugged node, like the infinite ward you can generate with Warlock, that’s not a nerf. That’s quite literally making the node work as intended. Now, if say you scaled back the damage of Wraith Lord, that would be a nerf. Concerning that you don’t seem to know the difference. Bugged skills, nodes and anything else with unintended ‘features’, should always be fixed ASAP. But, if you DESIGN a skill that’s overpowered in nature, then no, you should not nerf that mid Cycle.
The Key change is tone deaf and utterly dumb in my opinion. You nerf CoF to balance MG. It’s the worst response you could have. All CoF uses keys for is more Stash tabs. Which MG has an infinite version by having a market to list 1 billion dollar items. To just take them back when they want to use them. Meanwhile CoF Gets 100000000 more trash items with no way to navigate the flood. Just tell us you want to extort our time and make gold impossible to get on CoF. Just be transparent. 6500 down to 175. That’s just predatory marketing bull shit in my eyes. Trying to milk our time for your numbers. Turning people away in the process
Hello, I have just reported that since your update my game has been completely bugged, infinite loadings, errors like LE65 and also the connection message in the middle of the screen for more than 2 minutes. I have never had this kind of problem since your update, I uninstalled and reinstalled everything, checked for corrupted files (I do not have a VPN) so I am asking you to please resolve this problem THANKS
The amount of mental gymnastics from mental midgets trying to justify exploiting an uwanted interaction with a skill is just hilarious. If you’re a Warlock abusing this bug, you’re cheating/exploting, plain and simple.
If my game bugged out and allowed to spec all my passives into whatever I wanted from other subclasses with no restrictions, that’d also be an unwanted interaction and I’d be exploiting if I did that. Except that would still only give me 2% of the power the current Warlock bug gives you.
You rarely see this in games because EXPLOITS ARE INSTANTLY FIXED OR PRIORITIZED. Except in here where EHG decided to let exploiters exploit and be rewarded with a leaderboard.
Do as many mental gymnastics as you want. In 99.9% of games EXPLOITERS are BANNED. Here they are rewarded and it’s hilariously cringe that the Devs are shooting themselves in the foot like this.
