Game has weird interaction with laptop GPU, resulting in interruption of normal cycle of fan activation.
What is supposed to happen:
fan speed gradually increases to cool GPU down under load (that works perfectly fine in all other games and during heavy rendering in Blender 3D).
What happens in LE:
fans run on slow speed until GPU reaches throttle point, after which game drops to 1-3 FPS while fans run on the maximum for a minute, then everything eventually repeats.
I have no idea how and why it has such effect, but it exists. Changing different graphics settings gives no effect.
6 month ago when I tried to play I had the same problem - since that time I’ve reinstalled drivers and system, so problem is not in them.
Laptop has special stand, so problem is not in the airflow.
LE is generally unoptimised and in beta so it can and does stress components if not suitably limited in some way via settings.
Before attempting to provide suggestions as to your gpu issues, there is one critical issue that needs resolving first: your system is having the RGB keyboard (logitech) error and you MUST disable the feature in settings. your player.log is 57MB of the same error repeated over and over again thousands on thousands of times. this will cause any number of errors with the game more than likely crashing as the final result.
a normal log doesn’t usually get to more than a few MB even in long play-sessions.
please delete the player.log and then start up the game and disable the setting. then restart and confirm its still disabled. play a few maps and re post the new player.log to confirm that issue is resolved.
note : you may need to reopen the settings window a few times to be sure it’s updated.
once that is confirmed resolved, then we can address the gpu issue if it still exists.
Hi.
I’ve disabled RGB support (btw checkbox doesn’t show any changes unless you reopen settings). Now log is not flooded with that error, but it didn’t affect the main problem. Player.log (63.8 KB)
Ok. This is a much more normal log. Yes, the settings needing to be reopened is a known issue - thats why I added the note.
On to your OP problem then.
What you are describing sounds like some sort of fan curve or temperature / gpu usage issue which LE is very capable of indirectly causing if you do not limit it appropriately. E.g. LE can max out your GPU very easily and this may be affecting how your laptop is handling the cooling process.
Please can you post:
Le_graphicsmanager.ini file. Its the game settings file.
The output from a dxdiag report (it includes OS patches, driver versions, specific hardware info and system diagnostics that could have bearing on your OP)
Until then:
Make 100% sure that your Laptop is in performance mode and there are no dynamic configurations active.
Do not use any other applications while testing LE. Doesnt matter how irrelevant you think that they are, just dont use them. This obviously contradicts point 3, but those apps dont tend to cause issues.
Monitor your system … Specificially GPU usage vs GPU temp vs GPU clock speeds and Fan speeds. It would also be useful to see what your CPU temps/usage are when these odd things happen. You can do this kind of thing with various tools like HWmonitor or others.
