Lack of a generic loot filter

This is not something that affects me personally(I use my own template filter), but I notice people tend to keep making similar mistakes with their loot filters(and thus wasting time engageing with the least fun part of the game). In fact even boardman seems to be making mistakes with the filter he provides with his builds.

I would like one of the create new filter buttons to generate a generic filter based on current class (and maybe level). Preferably one that is similar in structure to heavies filter and already has some hide rules (but unticked) shown in this video.

EDIT;wrong vid, I had to switch it

I don’t think a generic filter has to be perfect, the point is that new players get a semi-decent, easy to modify filter and don’t have to make the mistake of trying to setup the filter for each gear slot separately while still level 1 when they first make one.

As it currently stands players have to check the forums for heavies filter or know a lot about loot filters to make a good one fast.

Quite. Here and in PoE the first thing I do is remove all common and uncommon (white and blue) gear. They are very common drops and fill up the screen.

Boardman is a gem with his loot filters following a ‘classical’ color scheme and level range. But even with loot filters I’m confused by, for example, my Warpathing character getting highlighted drops with minion related affixes.

That is objectively not a good approach in Last Epoch.

Magic Item’s are one of the best crafting bases and even a high tier magic item can be really good already.

Finding a magic item with 2 desired affixes is way more likely, than a rare with 3-4 desired affixes.

Also a Magic Item with a total Tier of 8-10 is way better than a rare item with 4 desired affixes that only have a combind affix tier of 4-5, since the last crafts on an individual affix (T4 and T5) are the ones with lowest success chances.

I have no clue how Boardman approaches his loot filters, but just because an Item has undesired affixes doesn’t make them inherently bad, since removing an affix is really really easy and does not cost alot of ressources

My filter(for reference)
Show exalted/set/unique
grey shatterable affixes
dark blue high value idol affixes
Hide wrong class
Hide weapons/offhands not use
Multiple hide rules for outdated bases
Orange get at least 3 affixes(combines offence affixes and defence affixes)
Red Offence affixes
Green Defence affixes
show idols
hide all

I am aware this filter has the issue of me needing to enter each affix twice(offence goes both in the offence field and multi field) so it isn’t the most new player friendly it can get. Also it needs me to update it whenever I level to the the next weapon base(instead of that stuff already being in there, to trigger based on level)

my issue with boardman filters is that he makes the common mistake of using an individual rule for every item when making a levelling filter that he would need to edit multiple times while going through campaign. And if you need to edit every single item to set them to take >3 tier affixes instead of changing a single rule, that is a lot of wasted time when compared to just putting a hide rule above a your affix rules.

It is this kind of mistake (that I expect new players to make, because even boardman makes it) that is why I want a simple generic filter that is designed to teach you how to quickly modify it by looking at its structure alone.

This is why I don’t suggest people downloading filters. It’s worth it to understand how they work and make one yourself so you can tweak it as needed, which is fast and easy once you understand the basics.
