Just Another Trade Suggestion

Good day Last Epochers :stuck_out_tongue: . I’d also like to chime in the trade conversation and post about my trade suggestion. This is under the premise of not wanting unrestricted trading and not wanting a trading system open enough that would make “currency farming” more attractive than actual item farming. My idea is pretty simple and is kind of an extension to the current gifting system:

When an item drops, there will be a time window (example 8 hours) to designate the item to another player to whom it is tradeable/giftable. After designation of the item, it is still usable by the player who looted it or if by choice a trade/gifting is pursued. Item designation can only be done once and cannot be re-designated to another player. A designation should also last only a limited time (lets just say 2 days). If the item is not traded nor gifted to the person designated, then is loses its tradability and is now account bound to the player who looted it.

Remember that this is in addition to the current gifting system.

Scenarios why I think its good:

  • You’re playing solo and a item drops that your friend can use, you designate it to your friend (or another player in chat)(w/n 8 hours) then gift/trade when he is available (w/n 2 days)

  • You’re playing with a certain group, a item drops that no one within you current party could use but your friend who isn’t part of the party could, then you designate it to that friend(or another player in chat) then gift/trade.

  • Buy/Sell through trade is still available but requires proper timing of communication for the buyer and seller. Also it isn’t the most optimal since the supply of tradable items would be limited by the designation time window(8 hours, item is now untradeable). I think this would make currency farming (if there would be any) less attractive and make actual farming more attractive; will depend also on how the devs would balance the drop rates.

This way, items that you won’t fit your character and would rather give away/sell do not instantly lose value being untradable, BUT have a limited time value within the designation time window to find a recepient for a free or a buyer in exchange for something.

Numbers for designation time window and time limit for the designation above are just arbitrary for the sake of example, for sure the devs would know better.

However, it doesnt stop currency being a thing.

This hypothetical idea is in the game as the trade system, how do you be efficient with getting loot, with any number of people:

Step 1) Make a discord server
Step 2) Have a bot that can save item requests, with offer for that item, and character name
Step 3) Item drops for you that you don’t need, but it’s really good.
Step 4) Ping the bot with the item name, get a list of top x offers for that item. Pick which one you want.
Step 5) Designate the item to that person.

If someone doesn’t pay up, kick them from the server.

Obviously as number grows, you’d move it from a discord bot to something more substantial, like a trade website.

In this system, I’d like to believe that the number of people who would participate in a trading discord server / trading website would be significantly less than those who would rather just farm/craft the item themselves. The trading economy would still exist just as you said but would be rather hard capped by the designation time window and a high emphasis on timing for player interaction (for the actual trade transaction). This way, even there was a highly organized trading group/discord, there is a limit to how much their efficiency will spill over to other players. At least that’s how I’d like to see it hahaha

Yeah, it wouldnt be that limited to be honest. People who want to trade, will trade, inconvenience doesn’t put people off that much, it just annoys them.

I made trade group suggestins with big cooldowns to join and leave trade partys as well as time limit you need to play with group members to stay in the group and people said 2 weeks CD and 5h party play aren’t enough to allow the group free trade even with reduced drop rates.

We might get a good trade idea going when hell freezes over because some people won’t be resonable about the topic… then agin we don’t need another trade thread where someone thinks his idea is so brilliant it needs an extra thread. No offence just sayin.
