Item Filter - Bug during creation of a filter

I am currently trying to set up an itemfilter for a character, but the editor for the itemfilter completely breaks for some reason.

What is the exact issue?

-Existing rules are deleted and replaced with empty rules (“show all items”)
-I can´t interact with existing rules
-Each button-press creates a new empty rule that does not count towards the counted rules
→ e.g. I have 25 empty rules, but the menu shows that I only have 8 rules
-Upon restarting the game completely, the filter is reset to its appropriate status (it returns to how it was before the bug occured), therefore I do not lose any data
=> I can´t continue to work on my itemfilter

How I encountered the issue the first time:

  1. I created rules to recolor and emphasize specific Idols with 2 specific affixes (This was done for 1x4, 1x3, 2x1 and 1x1 Idols)
  2. I created a rule to recolor and emphasize a basetype (Shadow plate → Sentinel Armor)
  3. I created a rule to recolor and emphasize a basetype (Bronze Belt)
→ The last rule was not created properly and the issue occured

I tried to do the 3rd step again after a restart, but the same issue occured.

Noteworthy details:
I created all rules in the filter from copies of already existing rules → 1 original Idol rule, 3 additional edited Idol rules; 1 original Basetype rule, the rule for the belt was an edit of a copy of the body armor basetype rule.
My Hardware is at its limits when playing Last Epoch (Ryzen 5 1600, AMD Radeon RX 580), the issue might therefore occur under high loads.

Attempts to reproduce: (I restart the game before to reset the issue)

  1. I create a new filter; I create a rule to recolor and emphasize the same armor basetype; I copy that rule; I edit the copy to emphasize a bronze belt;
→ an issue occures: instead of changing from body armor to belt as a base type, the overview of the rule still shows body armor; Furthermore, even though I only selected 1 basetype, it shows that 2 basetypes are selected; After updating the filter, I can still interact with the filter and the main issue does not appear. After reopening the rule, I can change it to properly show its content → it now states that it recolors bronze belts (which is what is supposed to happen)
=> I learned that there is an issue when swapping a basetype while you still have selected a subtype of that base. However, this is not the only reason the main bug reported happens, since I wasn´t able to break the loot filter this way.

→ new issue: after doing this, when opening the problematic filter: the filter is broken and cannot be edited anymore

  1. I restarted the game and open the problematic loot filter before attempting to reproduce the bug as in “1.” The loot filter seems to be corrupted: It contains 2 empty lootfilters that would not be obtainable under normal circumstances. → They contain a condition (Option A) And a type (Belt) and show the automatic rule name of " Show & Update Autogenerated rule name as conditions are added. These weird rules carry over when duplicating the loot filter.

=> I learned that unlike I originally thought, the issue completely corrupts the loot filter and makes you unable to use the menu for creating loot filters.

The only weird detail I was able to identify is the issue in step “1.” of the attempts to reproduce the issue. My conclusion for this is that maybe a lootfilter breaks if too many rules are copied and then edited. I´ll try to corrupt a loot filter this way and will edit this post to state whether I succeeded or not.

Edit: I was not able to corrupt a loot filter this way

Hey… Welcome to the forums…

Loot filters do get corrupted… Sometimes the only way to restore the functionality and prevent further issues is to remove all the filter files from the filter folder in
Bootdrive:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Eleventh Hour Games.

and start again from in-game.

If you were willing to test the corruption, I would recommend you remove all filters and try your steps to confirm it… This would definitely help the devs debug and prevent this issue from happening again…

Edit: The loot filter does add overhead to the game but it shouldnt be enough to break things imho… unless you have close to the max (which I think is 75 at the moment)

Thank you very much for the quick answer. I think I may have been just a bit unlucky. I did in fact try to reproduce the issue in a fresh filter, but it did not happen. However, I still think that the fact that subtypes do not get carried over properly (or deleted) when changing the basetype from body armor to belt might have had an impact.

Sadly, I am unable to provide full insight on how the corruption came to be at this point.

Do you think I should close this topic due to that and properly address the one issue I did explicitly find in another post?

Up to you really…

The key here is to try and provide something for the devs to work from so that they can replicate the issue internally, trace the code and correct it… If it cannot be replicated then its really hard for them to do so…

If you can (and are willing to put in the time) then your efforts will only help improve the game… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

After all, we are effectively just beta testers right now…
