Is there anything new for the forge guards of forging weapons in the new season?

The last season, I couldn’t pass ub, and then I went to play Diablo 4. Is there any hope of ub this season?I took a look at the new uniq 2handed axe. Will it help?

its not as good as paladin or void knight but you can still kill stuff on a forge guard. I think :wink:

I’m pretty sure Forged Weapons could kill ubby back in S2.
All Forged Weapons builds I’ve seen online were either some weird DoT version that didn’t deal any damage, or some incorrectly built hit version.

Hell, most of them don’t even focus on the minions, they’re just warpath or vengeance FGs that happens to summon FWs :joy:

The new axe seems mediocre for FWs.

  • Up to 18% flat crit is potentially very nice.
  • But the %Crit Multi per STR only applies to the player, but does nothing for minions (because minions have no STR).
  • Final nail in the coffin is the absence of explicit flat damage bonus.

This makes the weapon a mediocre choice when compared to other options. And I’m not sure if the overkill damage spillover works on minions either.

I’m glad to hear you say that. For me, I have been playing Forged Weapon FG since Season 1. In Season 2, I attempted the UB nearly a hundred times, but none of them were successful. Each match was a marathon challenge lasting over 10 minutes, yet there was a clear lack of sufficient DPS. Could you give me some advice on your strategy or show me your planner? I’m now trying again to keep playing Forged Weapon FG in this season.

Sure. A good weapon is the most important, because FWs get stats from it. The stats you want are:

  • % Attack Speed
  • flat damage
  • % Crit Multi
  • % flat Crit
  • % increased Dmg

For leveling, you want literally anything that rolls with a flat damage affix and attack speed. Bone Harvester is surprisingly good for early game.

When you reach higher level, Sierpin’s Fractal Tree, Plague Dragon’s Tongue and Clotho’s Needle make for great upgrades, especially if you get early LP or good roll on Clotho’s.
Otherwise Avenged Sun Beak, Trident or Odachi are the best exalted bases, with:

  • % Melee Crit Chance
  • % Attack Speed or + flat Physical/Fire damage
  • % Physical Penetration
  • % Fire Penetration

being your best affix setup.

  • For endgame, farm Rift Beasts and get Runes of Evolution, then find a good rolled Exalted weapon and use it on that. T8 Exalted weapon with one of the bases mentioned earlier and with 3 useful prefixes, that means (T8 primordial prefix/T5 prefix/T5 prefix/T5 suffix/T5 suffix) will beat most uniques in damage output, even if you get them to 3LP.

Grind/Godlike gear would be:

  • getting a fourth prefix (standard sealed) via imprint farming: (T8 primordial/T5 sealed/T5 prefix/T5 prefix/T5 suffix/T5 suffix)
  • then the dream is to upgrade that to double or even triple exalted weapon: (T8 primordial/T7 sealed/T7 prefix/T5 prefix/T5 suffix/T5 suffix)

The other important slot is gloves. Not much to choose from, only Solarum Bracers base for the %inc crit. Falcon Fists for leveling, Immortal Vise after you beat Uberroth, or have someone kill it for you. Glove stats to look for are:

  • % inc Crit
  • % Attack Speed
  • Hybrid Health
  • % Chance to apply Frailty OR Last Bear set suffix for small % increased Melee Physical
  • % Leech (T1 sealed should be enough)

For gear, you want two Phantom Grip rings, Logi’s Hunger amulet and stack % Minion Damage anywhere you can. For example +4 Manifest Armor helmet affix gives % Minion damage. Attunement boosts FW damage aswell.

Play without Forgemaster’s Might for as long as you can, because it’s a DPS loss. Invest a little in Leech, HP Regen or % Healing to stay alive. In passives, grab 3/5 Unflinching for minion stun immunity, 5/8 Iron Attunement for Armor to DoT, grab Hammer and Anvil for % Armor Shred, grab Liquid Iron and Walls of Solarum for %DR.

If you decide to go for the tanky variant, take Forgemaster’s, farm the Majasa shield and grab all Block chance passives.

Skills are:

  • Forge Strike - FW buffs, duh.
  • Symbols of Hope - for damage and crit bonuses for you and your minions. For block chance if you play as tank.
  • Void Cleave - convert to Fire and take all minion buffs and +1 charge node. The minion buff effect stacks with itself. Allocate Traversal or Crit Vulnerability if you have enough +skills.

Bonus mention, Swords and Axes dropped from champions can have Abyssal Champion affix, adds flat (untyped) melee damage and +1 void cleave charge. T8 adds +2 charges. But it can only drop from Abyssal Champions, so difficulty of getting this as T7 exalted affix is higher than regular exalted.

The rest is your choice, people often use Healing Hands and Manifest Armor. Rebuke is very useful even unspecialized, and ofc traversal skill if you don’t have the VC traversal node.
