Is there any way to get a Meele attack without giving up a skill bar slot?

I just want to hit someone with my bare weapon, no skill, to trigger an effect. Do I HAVE to give up a skill slot to do this?

Yes, you have to. Your “build” is only supposed to be consistent of all skills slotted + triggered skills.

So you alternative would be to automate/trigger one of your other skills and then replace it with a unspecced melee attack or default melee attack.
