Is crit necessary?

Hello, I was wondering if crit is necessary for late game, also is going non-crit viable? I prefer to play slow and steady but I recall my days playing POE where crit was mostly mandatory. Just wanted to know if that’s that style of game or if its more casual friendly. Thanks in advance!

It really depend what you want to achieve with your build.

For max dmg crit is probably the best way for any hit build.

But if you DO NOT go for crit at all, you have alot of other options for offensive stuff. Since reaching high crit does often require some heavy investment (except for rogue).

Going a non-crit build, that still focuses on hits can benefit from alot of potential more defensive stuff and more raw base damage.

One very big advantage of going non-crit is, that you can go a hybrid hit/ailment build without wasting to much investment, since Ailments do not benefit from crit at all.
So if you are going a mixed hit and ailmetns builds leaves alot more affixes benefificial for both the hits and the ailments.

TL:DR: It’s defintiely viable and changes character building a little bit. For maximum damage you probably need to go crit though. Going non-crit is really good for a mixed Hit/Ailment build.

It depends on your build. In LE there are some skills that can’t crit or dmg types like DOTs that can’t crit. If you opt for a build that uses DOTs or skills that can’t crit you need no crit at all. If you go for direct dmg that can crit crit and crit damage is your best bet to increase your damage by a hugue amount.

You can defiantly play without any crits. There are specific items that reduce or completely remove the chance to crit but gives other good bonuses.
