Instantly dead when loading second room lightless arbor

What went wrong?
In 2 separate runs, my friend and I both died when entering the second floor of lightless arbor. First run I was party leader and he died when he entered before me. Second run he was party leader and I died when entering before him. During the loading screen we heared monsters. We played on hardcore.
